And then we're back to whether what is reasonable for us is reasonable for bale.

I'm not against us trying to get the monkey home at all. I'd love to see him in a spurs shirt again. However the reality of football contracts and fees are so much more complex than we give them credit. I suspect that it could be a long drawn out attempt with odds stacked against us.

A few legends have commented and even Ledley used his appearance as a positive regarding subs. We are by all it seems trying but @Breezer I love that ITK and same with @Trix and @Hercules.

Am just here to dream but I will guarantee if he signs I will be buying my first spurs shirt since we sold him and for my daughter and wife all with Bale on the back. If there is any hope please make it happen DL and MP

Not sure if this had already been covered, but the clause states we only have to match the first accepted offer, regards of any higher, further offers

But it is up to Madrid as to when they accept an offer. If they are looking to sell they will encourage a bidding war before accepting the highest offer and then let us have a crack at matching ALL the terms of the offer.

Bout the same for me. I haven’t bought a shirt either since that same summer, and never bought one with a name on the back. I would certainly buy one with his name if he returns to Spurs. Even with the hope here, I still can’t fathom the elation I would feel to see that man playing for Spurs again.

Yeah totally get that, but I thought it was Trix (who I replied to) who had said we had £150m. I could be wrong though.

Either way the general point holds that, in my opinion, if we have a genuine opportunity to buy a world class proven match winner like Bale then we have to give it serious consideration, even if it means spending a little more than we're accustomed to.

Yeah I don't know to be honest mate! But yeah I totally agree.

I thought this transfer was totally laughable before his interview yesterday I'm not gonna lie but it really just felt like the guy wants to be playing football every week. I have no idea if it's financially possible but like Breezer said, you would have though Levy would have had some idea of the figures that may be needed for such a transfer or we wouldn't have bothered with that buy back clause.

Bidding war or no bidding war it is highly unlikely we'd be able to match any bids put in for him, that madrid would accept.

It's not that people don't want him back, it's how it affects our ability to strengthen other more pressing areas considering how much he'd cost.

The way Baldy was grinning in the Poch picture make me think he was trying to hide some gold teeth. Tell him to sell those to help fund Bale's return.

I don’t think he’ll come back. He loves it in Madrid. Besides, why would they sell him when he can do that?

Yeah, you think Perez will go through the headache of negotiating with Levy all summer to get rid of a player that did that in a CL final. I don’t think so. Not unless Zidane absolutely wants him gone.

And if he breaks his leg in preseason training it's a total waste and still have to pay him £600k a week.

Rationalise it all you want but for every reason for there is also a reason against.

Baz if he wants £600k a week he won't be coming home to us, or any other PL team. if he wants £600k a week he will stay in Madrid and have to be content with "NOT PLAYING EVERYWEEK".

Possibly. Or they play him more, or swap him for neymar or utd pay him.

Who knows?

Or does he? Marketing in China would be worth something, I mean they genuinely went mental for him in the China v Wales match (even cheering for him against their own national side ). if we get just £1 of marketing income from a quarter of the population there that's £250m. Obviously a vast exaggeration but with extra foreign TV money, shirt sales etc the financials aren't out of the question

would most probably get a better Stadium deal too

Not sure it would cause issues with other players. He’ll be coming in on less than he’d get elsewhere - just like we have players on less than they could get elsewhere.

Secondly, our players want to win things. That becomes far more possible with a player like Bale. They won’t not want him as a teammate just because he earns more.

Lastly, our players have won f all. He’s just won the CL in successive years, scoring the winning goals in several finals (not just CL). He is worthy of his wage. Until our boys are that successful he fully justifies being paid more

If you think that's how the other players agents will see it you are very much mistaken.

Same base wage as our highest earner then £50k per goal bonus, see I’ve sorted it already ! No worries.
You give a player that high a goal scoring bonus compared to his wage he'll be taking shots from the dressing room and his pass completion rate will be zero.
