And if he breaks his leg in preseason training it's a total waste and still have to pay him £600k a week.

Rationalise it all you want but for every reason for there is also a reason against.

Have you heard of insurance?

Most of us would love him, and seeing him come on last night and produce a moment of magic has us all giddy with excitement.

Yes it’s possible, and honestly he would take us to that next level - we’ve all seen what a difference a some good attackers can make when you look at Liverpool this season. However the precedent he’d set if we signed him wage cap wise would be a dangerous game to play.

Personally I think it would be worth it, but that’s just my opinion as a fan that grew up watching him play, going from the young left back into the winger that won us games on his own. Would love to see him back, and honestly feel like signing bale alone this summer would improve us, if we kept all our players.

But that’s highly unlikely, and we seriously need a CM that can drive us forward and pick passes, especially since Mousas agent is speaking about a transfer as he’s getting older and maybe in search of that final pay day. Winks was unbelievable but really unlucky with injury and we would need to replace Toby should he go. In conclusion. Pls bring Bale back Levy :):)

Im saying the depth is not great. We would rely on Vertonghen and Sanchez staying fit through the whole season again if one of them picked up an injury like Alderweireld I wouldn’t be that confident. Not saying we need an overhaul just one really good CB when/if Toby leaves. Quoting Foyth, CCV and Dier(who doesn’t even want to play and I think is suspect there) is not going to cut it when push comes to shove.

That's all fair enough. So let's first find out if Toby leaves & then go from there because, as things stand, he's here & the shortness you're concerned about is nothing to be concerned about because it's not there :)

If Toby goes, his fee will fund any necessary replacement.

Is that the equilibrium of winning sod all in the last 30 years?

If you’re happy with staying at the level we are, each to their own.

I want us to sign players that will make us better, turn draws into wins, turn semi final appearances into cup victories. If Poch is worth his salt he should be jumping at the chance to sign a 3 time CL WINNER. He’s the one chirping about the next level.

Gone are the days of buying poxy Sissoko, Llorente, Allnof those little £10m flops in the last 2/3 seasons.

Love the project and it’s been good so far but We’ve got to break through the previous ceiling now, mentally and with results. Bale would do that instantly.

“Be brave” !!!

Yeah this is it in a nutshell really for me. People say it’s romantic nonsense wanting Bale back and I guess it is. It’s no more romantic though imo than the notion we’ll just keeping buying highly rated prospects, who aren’t stars, but they’ll all become stars together before our eyes and all the current best players will all wait for this one glorious moment when it all comes together.

The reality is that by the time a lot of prospects fulfill their potential other players have already come close to their peak and want to move on, and then we have to replace them and we’re all back here having the same debate.

If we can’t afford Bale then fair enough, but if we can do it we must, or lest we just maintain the status quo, selling some players here, bringing some replacements there, without ever really improving the first 11.

As good as this team is we’ve hit a glass ceiling. A signing like this would go some way to smashing right through that.

Surely the club stands to make an obscene amount of money from merchandise, shirt sales and sponsorship from a potential marquee signing like Bale?
We should be real about these figures. Tottenham doesn't sell loads of shirts. It's simply impossible for Spurs to sell shirts related to one singular player to an amount that's actually noticeable.
Of far more interest are past facts, such as for 2014, 2015, 2015 and 2016, the total retained profit (that is profit after tax) was a total of 150M. Spurs is a filthy rich club, it just serves a purpose not to be perceived as such.

BAM! We need to start thinking bigger on the transfer market. Stop all this N'onsense and "But he was so great for Newcastle against us" shit and start signing actual renowned players. We have established ourselves as a top 4 club, and with that comes the responsibility of changing our transfer attitude. Fewer signings of higher quality to improve only the trusted core of great players, and fill the occasional hole otherwise with home-grown kids.

Yes it'd be a tough one to figure out financially, but is this not ultimately the whole reason for the new stadium, so we can compete with the big boys who are able to offer the big bucks?

Poch's words taken from an article
-
However the article says Pochettino assured fans that next season’s move to a new £850m new stadium will actually put the club in a position to compete in the same market as our top-six counterparts.

He said: “Of course we will be able to compete. With these facilities and the new stadium, Tottenham is going be different. A different club, a different reality, and everything is going to change.I hope and I wish it, because I think the fans deserve it and of course the club and the people that work here too.

He added:”Tottenham is going to be one of the most attractive clubs in the world and with the capacity maybe to develop a more exciting or different project.”

This is a heck of a read, re our finances & moving to the new stadium. Way too long to copy & paste, but you really should have a read if you want an idea as to how things could change for us. Heck it's even got graphs in it for simpletons like me to almost understand what they're on about.

Here's the link - https://cartilagefreecaptain.sbnati...ncially-an-analysis-of-tottenhams-present-and

Some of the poignant bits are...

In moving from White Hart Lane, capacity 36,284 31,488, to the new stadium, capacity 61,559, that 25,275 seat increase will a huge boon financially. Spurs’ Director of finance and operations recently estimated Spurs matchday income would be approximately £100m per season, an increase of £60m annually.

A second source of income from the new stadium is the naming rights. Daniel Levy has made it very clear that we intend to shed the White Hart Lane name in return for a massive sponsorship deal. Arsenal, for example, received £100m to name their stadium after the Emirati airline for 15 years. But that was 2004, when 60,000 seat stadiums cost less than £400m to build, and when the Premier League record transfer was £28m for Juan Sebastian Veron. Times have changed. City signed a sketchy £400m deal with Etihad in 2011. Daniel Levy is therefore likely to seek a new mega-deal. Rumours have been swirling of a 6 year, £150m deal, and some more absurd stories of a £400m deal. Perhaps the scant details of the new sponsorship deal with AIA extended through 2022 include stadium naming rights provisions? But again, let’s be conservative, and assume Spurs receive a deal worth approximately £20m per season. All in all, that would boost Spurs revenue at least £80m annually (matchday revenue + naming rights)

the stadium costs have already ballooned to £800m from an initial estimate of £400m "largely due to construction cost inflation and the impacts of Brexit". As a result, Spurs have been forced to take out a five year £400m loan, which should cover the remainder of the project. Based on the terms of the loan, it appears Spurs intend to aggressively pay off the loan over the first four seasons in the new stadium, meaning our freedom to spend will be constrained initially. However, as I’ve noted our revenue will be increasing from around £210m per season to around £384m in our first season in the new stadium. Even if we earmark £100m per season for four seasons to pay off the loan, we will still have at a minimum an additional £75m more than we did in the 2015/16 season.

I just don’t understand why any attacking player would want to go play under Mourinho.

I was about to say they don't even need Bale because they have so many forwards in that position but then realised we're most likely to take one off their hands...
