Seems to me that we will be linked to Bale right up the moment he is sold, mainly as it suits Real Madrid to have a club with a supposed summer war chest and a special bale sale clause sniffing around to drive the price up. And it flatters us to be linked with a player catching the world headlines.

ManU can end the debate by splashing out £120m+, a figure we couldn't match unless we threw in one of our players, but that is highly unlikely this summer as much as RM try to encourage that thought with links to CE.

Or ManU can deplete our funds by selling us Martial at a reasonable price - £60m?. Then we are out the Bale game.
Bale before those 2 goals (both quite freaky) would not have been worth anything like the figures being suggested today. Once the hype dies down, and us out the way, ManU could secure Bale for a more sensible price.

Breezer has posted in this thread that his information is that we have a previously agreed upon buy back sum. Of course, Trix disagreed with that, but it indicates that there's a chance that the fee might not be as big of an issue for us as it would be for other clubs.
Having seen the contract i agree with Trix, there is no buy back clause, all we have is 72 hours after a bid has been accepted to match it, and that expires end of June next year
99.99999% certain there is no agreed buy back sum

LOL you think that some of these posters will give up hope once he's sold somewhere else? They won't! they will be posting about how he/hhis wife won't settle where he's going, and that we could get him on loan in January when he's unhappy.

It's like a crazy unfaltering cult where Bale is concerned.

Interestingly, Ronaldo seems to be out of RL's kit launch photos. Perhaps it's a hint that Ronnie really is leaving. Can't see Bale leaving if Ronnie does.

Seems to me though that the year Bale was sold, "everybody" who were "anybody" and newspapers stated for months that he wouldn't be sold (although we all knew since March that year that he would leave). So now, when ya'll stating that he isn't coming back, it sort of just follows a a weird tradition, doesn't it. :D

Even you must admit, it would be quite the story if he came back. Very easy to get romantic about it. Up there with Ossie & Ricky and Klinsmann. Proper Hollywood stuff.

Despite strong ITK denials we've also had other info saying it's a Levy thing and now ITK/media saying Bale would be willing to consider a pay cut of sorts to come to us. I won't begrudge people for wanting to believe, I do too. I certainly wouldn't put any money on it or rush out to buy a Bale shirt for my son, as it's so unlikely, but still...

I suspect this meeting with Madrid will put it all to bed however, confirming he will stay at Madrid.

To the contrary. Selling both Bale and Ronaldo would mean signing Neymar. From their point of view, that would actually be sensible business.

@Trix it's not a Cult, it's just belief that one day our prodigal son will return.

Same as when Gazza leaves Lazio, I know he's coming back to us...BELIEVE...

Ha ha, so crazy that some of our fans would want us to sign one of the best players to play for us in the past 50 years ?????
