I doubt it will be that easy.
He would have been given options last summer too, but declined them even with the worry of missing out on the WC.
He seems intent on triggering the £25m release clause - maybe he wants to play in the championship with Southampton.

Exactly. And he's been bang average after his injury. It's now time for HIM to PROVE that he is good enough. Sanchez and Jan are a wonderful and COMMITTED partnership. We can get people for the right money and with the right attitude. If Toby signs, great, if not, meh. Just sell him abroad.

Rather than focus on the negative we should appreciate that it’s loyalty that is being rewarded. If you get into our team it’s because you fought for a place in it. With so many players picking up a wage without putting in a shift these days, or with eyes and minds elsewhere, how good is it that it isn’t accepted at our Club?
