England legend 'comfortable' following car accident.

England legend Paul Gascoigne is recovering in hospital after being involved in a car accident.

Gascoigne is in a comfortable condition in Newcastle General Hospital following the incident.

The 43-year-old, who won 57 caps for his country, has endured a troubled time after his playing career came to an end.

The former Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio and Rangers player has battled alcohol addiction and depression in recent years.

He is currently awaiting trial having denied a charge of drink driving after being arrested in North Yorkshire in February.

Afew more details as per BBC website:

Paul Gascoigne in hospital after car crash in Newcastle

Ex-footballer Paul Gascoigne is in hospital after a car accident in Newcastle upon Tyne.
The incident, involving a Vauxhall Astra, happened on Sunday evening at about 2145 BST at Sandhill, on the city's Quayside.
The car, in which Gascoigne was a passenger, is believed to have left the road before then hitting a nearby signpost.
A 36-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
A friend of the former England midfielder's family told the BBC he had not been badly hurt.
The ambulance service confirmed that a passer-by called them to an incident on the Newcastle Quayside on Sunday evening.
Four ambulances were sent to assist the driver and three passengers.
They confirmed that three of them were then taken to Newcastle General Hospital for treatment.

I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

... or a quick and painless death, which might be more pleasant for the poor fellow in the long run. Life or death, Gazza; choose one and get on with it, please.

    Thats a bit strong Boris.

Gazza has given me some of the best memories of football as a child and I'm sure many other people on here feel the same.

A truly gifted entertainer who dispite all of his faults was a footballing genius, and we were lucky enough to have him at spurs.

I hope he gets the support he desperately needs.

It will end badly, he's already beaten the odds too many times.

    Such a waste.

    Get well soon Gazza.
So you're blaming him for a drink driver who crashed with him?
  7. Chedozie

Do you think it was her driving? That is the current report, i might be overly cynical, but i bet it was him.
  8. mil1lion
I prefer not to make those assumption though tbh. I know he has had his troubles, but it doesn't help to accuse him when we don't really know.

If he had more friends like you he would have been dead long ago.
The man is ill, he is an alcoholic, he needs support and more TLC than many are prepared to give him. Step forward Boris.

Because of the joy he has given so many fans he is probably luckier than the average alcoholic who does not generate the same level of concern. Even so he is struggling.
But he is certainly not better off dead. Have a heart man.

You might recall another Spurs great who has managed to defeat the illness of alcoholism mainly due to his family and friends. At 70 he is still giving joy to thousands.
You might have said the same about him at one time Boris,
I think an apology to Gascoigne and many thousands like him are in order.

He WAS the reason I supported Spurs, along with Lineker. Will always be my hero on the pitch, off it is another matter.

And Boris, go sit in a corner and learn not to make assumptions. Wars were created because of such assumptions.

    Get well soon Gazza.

And, sadly, Gazza has his own weapon of mass destruction - himself.

Gazza was the reason i chose Spurs, i never used to be in to football, prefering fishing, ferreting and all that kind of stuff, i wasnt lucky enough toi have a dad that lived his dream of football through me so i didnt follow it, untill Gazza.

I have been an addict since then and have never wavered from Spurs.

I feel sorry for people like Boris who can be so flippant about something that is very sad and it shows that he knows nothing about the illness that is depression. I kinda wish people like that could live in their shoes for a week and then they would understand and would not be so quick to mock.

Get well soon Gazza and thank you.

Yes, that was a bit harsh. However, based on the available evidence on Gascoigne and personal experience of addiction and depression it is my opinion that, unlike Greavse, for example, he lacks the wit and strength to beat the demons, and that the long-term emotional well-being of the man and those who care about him might be better served by his demise. It's not that I wish him dead, but it is an option.
  16. boris
Been there, StokeSpur. Thanks for asking.
  17. masterblaster80
    Boris, my friend.

Wishing death on someone is not wishing them the best. No matter how they're suffering.

Do you see Gascoigne slitting his throat? Maybe not yet, but if he has the will to keep on living, who are you to not give him his God given right?
  18. Yidoinoz
It seems no one can help Gazza, his family, his friends or even Clubs like Spurs and Newcastle who have offered support. When i see a Gazza headlines i almost expect him to be dead because how long can this go on.
Kind of thinking it's a shame he wasn't driving, might be good for him to sit in a prison cell for a year, kick the booze and get some theropy away from his so called "mates".

    Classic!
