If so, I'm straight over to RAWK, with a massive bucket of salt and sweet popcorn, and a large Fanta, and let the entertainment commence
I could be wrong and i likely am tbh but I just dont see how it doesn't get done. Barca is offering insane money and the player so clearly wants out. Completely different situation to Mahrez and VVD where the players wanted out but no one came in for them. Liverpool would be beyond stupid to keep a player who doesnt want to be there that they had a bid for £120m. Think they're overplaying their hand a bit. Especially when they now have a log jam in the front 3

Several big players (and Danny Drinkwater) clearly wanted out and didn't get their move. It will be fascinating to see which of the following give 100% for their clubs for the entire 2017-18 season:

Alexis Sanchez
VVD
Riyad Mahrez
(Phil) Coutinho

My money is on Mahrez being flashy & selfish going forward and failing to put in a shift against smaller clubs.
Similarly, VVD giving his all against the big boys but not being bothered most of the time.
Coutinho's "stress induced back strain" (LOL) may reappear just before the January transfer window.
And hopefully Sanchez continues to laugh at the pathetic efforts of his teammates and leaves next summer with the goons getting absolutely nothing.

Did anyone actually want Mahrez?

Don Balon reporting that Bale turned down a £90m move to Utd which they say Zidane will think is unforgiveable as it meant Real Madrid couldn't buy Mbappe.

The secret of Gareth Bale in Real Madrid: the call that kills Zidane

The Frenchman pulls the rug

Zidane was clear: Gareth Bale came out and Kylian Mbappé came in. The move of the Real Madrid coach pointed in a single direction: lose sight of the Welshman this summer.

The coach put the play on the table of Florentino Perez who, warned by the player's injuries that are a huge problem in the Real, authorized the sale.

The one chosen to place to crack was the United of Mourinho that entered the race. The problem? One.

'Mou' convinced Manchester to put 100m for Bale, an amount that even Florentino Perez looked good, but Gareth refused.

Bale did not want to negotiate his exit to a team of risk.

To drop a winning project like Real Madrid, by a team under construction like United, does not enter the plans of a Gareth who was unwilling to miss the glory years of Madrid.

Bale refused to pack and blocked the arrival of Mbappé who would choose the PSG. Zidane will not forgive

I wonder how true this is.

I suspect Real would have accepted £90-100 million for Bale if it enabled them to get Mbappe, but PSG looked to have that deal locked up before we heard whispers of Mourinho's bid for Bale.

We've had ITK on here suggesting Bale does want to play for manure, so if he turned down the move this summer, his form this year will be closely watched.

Bale's best matches last year were for Wales. For Real, he often looked to be short of ftness and confidence when he got onto the pitch. Maybe we'll get some clues as to his level when he plays for the Welsh this pm.

I think we'll know by seeing if he starts for Real Madrid in La Liga. Bale has some serious competition in that side and I think he'll find it difficult to get in front of Isco and Asensio.

So. That's Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea - all "money bag" football clubs who are not having it all their own way.

Could it be that they have screwed themselves over - having paid extortionate prices for players over the years - pissing clubs off in the process?

Real Madrid and Barcelona will always have the pull and allure in global football but perhaps selling clubs have more power to say "no" and not be forced into negotiations? Instead holding them to ransom for players they don't want to lose.

That's two summers in a row where Madrid haven't had a marquee signing right?

Fair play to Bale for refusing to give up on his Madrid career though.

I know it's not the thread for it, but what did you make of the Livermore-Henderson axis yesterday? I was watching it just imagining you shouting "ho hum!" "Ploddermore" at your wife whilst she rolls her eyes at you. It was depressing to be fair.

Actually I think Dithermore is better than Ploddermore. You can have that.

LOL. I wonder how much Christian Eriksen is worth in this crazy market?

I'm certain Levy would demand a higher price than any quoted for Coutinho....

---------------------------------------

Barcelona abandoned their hopes of signing Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool after the Merseyside club demanded €200m (£183m) for the Brazil attacking midfielder, the Liga side’s director Albert Soler said on Saturday.

Since 1992 our net spend is about 150 million pounds....fair to say that selling CE would put us in the black by a bit

I don't believe that was the direct cause for a second. Perez/Zidane just looking for a scapegoat IMO.

not convinced either. If Bale had gone to the EPL this year he could have easily torn the place apart and been player of the year....Perez would look like a mug. If Bale gets fit and has a good year Real will benefit on and off the field.

PS clearly Mbappe chose PSG and Real wouldn't have got him either way
