Fekir is miles better than Shaquiri, much more multi faceted, but it would be odd to sign both as they both fill a similar kind of remit.
I think you could argue Fekir could fluctuate between a midfield 3 and cover for Mane or Salah and is more versatile than Shaqiri. If they do go back in for him they are going to be on the line for a lot of money and I've yet to hear anything notable on outs with them yet to fix their broken GK situation and desperately needing CB depth unless they have some hidden academy gems or bargain buys like Robertson up their sleeves. Nobody is paying much for Danny Ings. I bet they shift Wijnaldum and could get a decent enough fee for him but that's still a big gap...

As I said, Fekir is much more multi faceted, and can even play as a striker, but if they are going back for him, I just don’t get why bother with Shaquiri at all?

so who do they have for their attacking 3-4 positions now? Seems like a large group

I think it’s worth it for the price. If he doesn’t play much and moves on in a year they probably sell him for 20m and break even after wages. If he hits it off then they’re sorted too.

Worrying if true - they have made some absolutely cracking signings.

Worrying?

For the umpteenth season in a row, they've decided that they don't need to sort their biggest weakness (a goalkeeper) and are further "strengthening" an area of the pitch they don't need to strengthen.

If they get Fekir to add to Keita and Fabinho, I'll be genuinely worried about them. Having top quality options on the pitch and bench is what wins you shit. They may yet be looking for a keeper, but I don't think it's the major issue everyone says it is. Lloris drops a bollock from time to time and he's adored on here.

They definitely needed more depth in midfield and attack, and they've addressed that. Keita in particular is an amazing signing.

Yes, their keeper and back four aren't great, but I'm sure their spending hasn't finished.

Lloris has a capable defence in front of him.

Liverpool's problem is their defence and keeper have egos larger than their abilities, and Klopp's tactics have never catered for any defensive frailties.

Who would Fekir come in for? Salah? Firminho? Mane?

The one thing that turn City into a brilliant team was directly improving a weak defence - not their previous tactic of buying more and more attackers.

Really? People were laughing at the money they spent on Ottomendi and his performances previously, and Stones, and they bought fucking Walker and Mendy, a dimwit and a very raw LB, not Alves and Lahm. Laporte might turn into a good signing, but he didn't bring much to them last season.

They also kept buying talented attacking players like Jesus, Sane and B.Silva

What improved City was Guardiola's coaching.

Liverpool's defence isn't as bad as some make out, Klopp's football takes more risks than Poch's, and they only conceded two more goals than us, and scored ten more.

So Liverpool now have mane, Firmino, Salah, Shaqiri, llama, Chamberlain, Solanke, origi, and possibly fekir.

Not to mention Sturridge and Ings

... And Danilo, and Ederson...

i.e. fixed their weaknesses

To get Lyon back to the negotiating table I suspect.

I think we’ll see Fekir playing in a rotation with Firmino the majority of the time operating as the team’s false 9.

What I’m most interested to see is how his fitness holds up. Serious knee problems and a bit of a belly make me wonder how it’s all going to play out.

I think Keita is the really big add there. I don’t think Fabinho is any better than Can (who I wasn’t a big fan of anyway) who they lost on a free and I think Fekir is a great player, but that attack with Mane, Firmino, and Salah was already great. Maybe they’ve got more injury insurance, but the fact is they got insanely lucky with injuries last year so I don’t think it necessarily takes them a step up but instead prevents a probable step back.
