I think the article sums up well why he isn't getting the adulation many young English players get when they start scoring in the Prem.

A lack of pace, scoring at a time we were apathetic and the fact he has been around so long so we already know about him rather than him bursting onto the scene.

It feels a bit like Utd bringing through a youngster under SAF right now. He's keeping a low profile, he is part of the squad, level headed guy and some rate him while others question him.

We live in a football world where pace and athleticism are heralded. The reality though is a top class defender can handle someone who simply has pace. Intelligent movement, being ahead of the curve and a good finish are the keys to breaking a good defence and Kane has it.

Keep developing him at a slow pace and we'll have a good player on our hands.

The sheringham comparison is a very smart one and that is the benchmark Kane should be using.......you don't need speed to do this in the box...

Shearer 2nd Goal V Holland Euro 1996

That's one of my favourite-ever team goals and I remember watching it live and going absolutely bonkers when it went in. The space that Sheringham and Shearer found was staggering, along with the calmness and precision of the passing and movement and the helplessness of a highly-competent Dutch defence.

It's all about knowing where to go. If your brain is ahead of the game, then your legs don't have to be Usain Bolt.

Harry Kane Harry Kane
His assist made me stiff like SugarKane

... Just to show my Mrs that I still Kane!!!

Kane's footballing intelligence is his greatest asset. He may not be blessed (as much as other professionals) physically but there is talent within. Third choice striker at the moment but if Soldado and Ade do not perform he is more than capable of making the next step up. (IMO)

Bring him on as a sub in league games and play him in every cup ties and let's see how he progress this season. If no progression, sell him off next summer

Sell Harry Kane?? Are you nuts? He is only 21 and is now getting accustomed to the Premier League. Did you see his assist and the way he is trying to play? He deserve more than just Cup games, he need constant Premier League exposure, whether it is 10 minutes or more but he deserve it. He can be a great player for Spurs and for England.

Sheringham most def. is a good comparison for Kane.

I hope I'm wrong, but at this stage I'm not convinced that the comparison has any more to it than the fact they're both slow. There isn't much evidence that Kane has the touch, vision, quick mind and deftness that Sheringham had, or Berbatov had for that matter.

You might as well be comparing Kane to me - I've got the pace of a snail!

If we don't sign MM, offer yourself to replace Dawson.:)

Or...

"here comes the story of the Harry Kane
the man who came through spurs academy
we don't know what he's ever done
but he could be the new Sheringham
the champion of the lane..."

[sung to Hurricane, by Bob Dylan]

How about this amended version?

"here comes the story of the Harry Kane
he was born to play at white hart lane
and by the time that he is done
he'll score for fun and someday he's gonna be
the champion of the world
[or 'champion of the lane' if you think that's too ambitious]..."

[sung to Hurricane, by Bob Dylan]

For those who don't know the song, it's here:

I'm not usually prone to this kind of thing, but I do think we ought to try to get this song adopted for Kane. Does anyone know how these things happen? Osmosis? Plans made in a pub somwewhere?

Here are my lyrics again They do scan with Dylan's original version.

And by the time that he is done

Hmm. I may start a thread...

Ha, I'd LOVE to hear that. You might be luckier getting people to sing just the first two lines - not that I'm underestimating the musical abilities of Spurs fans ; ) In the long version I couldn't resist a couple of my own suggested amendments - a snugger fit with the rythmn of the original.

Oh, and the video you posted is silent for some reason (on my computer, anyway). Here's another one:
