Thought they were splitting it between countries from now on?
That's a one-off for 2020. Ostensibly to celebrate UEFA's 60th anniversary. In reality because Platini had pretty much guarenteed it to Turkey after some brown envelopes, resulting in no other credible bids (I think there was a Georgia and Armenia proposal), only for Turkey to pull out to focus on their bid for the Olympics in Istanbul that summer instead. So rather than go to England with a begging bowl (few others would be willing and able to host at reduced notice with no prior preparation), they spread it accross the continent and hired some spin artists.

Sorry to be a swat but it would be "Es kommt nach Hause" :pompous:

"Es ist kommen heimat" would be something like "It is to coming homeland" aka gibberish :D

In my defence I assumed 'hause' as being 'house'
.. Hence trying to be beyond clever and not wanting to say "Its coming house"

Yeah to be fair Haus does just mean house, but to say you're coming/going home would be nach Hause.

Heimat is a bit of a more grandiose term so would be something like "homeland" in English. To be honest, you could probably use it in this context as well, you'd just have to say something like:

Fußball kehrt in die Heimat zurück

But to me that sounds a bit too over the top. Sort of like what they'd say on the news when talking about people returning to what's left of their village after a tsunami or something, rather than just "coming home"

To be fair the Germans I've met on my many trips to Germany can speak pretty good English.

Even Jurgen Klinsmann after the Euro '96 tournament was quoted as saying something along the lines of
'The Krauts say thanks"
