Hossam Ghaly is determined to win his Tottenham place back after completing his three-match suspension for a dismissal at Blackburn.

    Source: TeamTalk

The 24-year-old midfielder felt harshly treated when he received a red card for an aerial challenge on Michael Gray but failed in his appeal to the Football Association to overturn the decision.

He used the time off to travel back to his native Egypt and has returned to the Spurs squad, although he was only on the bench for the weekend victory over Charlton in the Premiership.

He could make a return to the starting XI on Thursday when Spurs host Dinamo Bucharest looking to top their UEFA Cup group and secure what should be a favourable draw in the knockout stages.

"I hope my suspension does not affect my performance and I can get in the team again and play like I was before," said Ghaly, who joined the club at the start of the year but made his debut in September.

"It was a disappointment to get a red card as I didn't mean to do anything. I didn't touch him much and didn't feel I deserved to get sent off.

"It was a bad moment for me, I was just getting into the team and was doing well, then I had to miss three games.

"I didn't get too bored because I had four days off and got to go to Cairo to see my family, which was nice for me."

Ghaly played his football in Cairo for Al Ahly and is hoping to see the same winning mentality at White Hart Lane.

"At Al Ahly there was only one word that was important to us - winning," said Ghaly in the Spurs matchday programme.

"Losing or drawing did not come into it, you had to have a winning attitude always. It is the way I play my game and I think that has helped me over here."

Despite already qualifying for the knockout stages of the UEFA Cup, Spurs are targeting a win to maintain their 100% record in the competition this season and remain top of their group.

"It's a very important game because we want to win the group and avoid the Champions League teams dropping down," said Teemu Tainio.

Ghaly is a very good player. You can see why wenger was looking at him. He is the type of player that has a little of everything without being great at anything, a bit like tt, but with a bit more skill, touch and vision.

    A valuable squad member.

    Agree with all that.

Don't think he is top drawer but definately a handy player to have amongst the squad.

I'd be happy enough to see Ghaly partner the hudd tomorrow night, I think HG makes very good attacking runs, i.e. vs Blackburn for the pen and on a few other occasions, he clearly wants to get in the box and score, plus I like his vision and final ball.

As mentioned - a very good squad player who has improved on the likes of Murphy (isnt that what Levy said our aim was -to improve our squad at every opportunity). I also feel he has yet to settle. We shall see if he can kick on.

We should rest Hudd for City at the weekend and play zakora and Ghaly in the centre.

In some games where spurs loose midfield possesion, you know it's Hossam Ghaly who is the missing ingredient.

He has adorable ball control and is a worldclass player in tailoring highballs to strikers against the goal.

On the other hand, he's not a good shooter like huddlestone or Teemu, which puts him in great competition with the menioned couples.

PS: speaking of Ahly (ghaly's egyptian club); they are NOW facing brazilian internacional in the World Club Championship! COY-Ahly!

zokora is banned for the man city game as well as the southend game and so huddlestone will play alongside tainio

It's quite clear that Jol's first choice midfield is Malbranque-Jenas-Zokora-Lennon, and that his first choice reserves are Huddlestone and Tainio. With Jenas and Zokora out, those two come in, but Ghaly only comes in if one more is injured or rested.

I think Lennon will be rested tomorrow and Ghaly will start, with Zokora in for Tainio. But on Sunday it'll be the same team as against Charlton, and quite rightly too.

That is a bit difficult to say because they have not all been fit at the same time. He likes ghaly no question, but he also likes tt and jenas but with so many games to play this season I reckon that they will all get games.

At the moment I would say that hudds and jenas/zokora for home games and jenas with tt/zokora for away games.

Id play Ghaly and TT in the middle

I think Ghaly's versatility is a real plus. He's possibly the only Spurs midfielder who looks as comfortable out wide as he does in the centre. That's why I think he will start tomorrow, but I'm not sure who he'll replace from Saturday's XI. It could just depend on who most needs a rest.
  13. gloryglory
    Which is surely Lennon.
  14. mdharris
    Give lennon a rest.
  15. Yorkshireyiddo
Yeah i agree with what you said good description of ghaly
  16. mawspurs
I think Tainio is out injured so it will probably be him who he replaces, although Zokora is available for this game so Ghaly may still replace Lennon if Jol thinks he needs a rest.

    What is his actual position?
