It depends on what you value most. They are different players with different attributes. Lamela's attitude, work rate and willingness to throw his body around are second to none on the team. And when he does that, he does affect the field players psychology when he works the way he does.

Moura's ability is to stretch the field creating room for players behind him. His dribbling is also a bit of an enigma. He can do deft touch, deft touch, deft touch, brick touch. Hence, he scores goals like his second at Ajax or lose the ball in relatively open space. He too makes his teammates better as defenders have to be aware of his movement and that gives other players the tiniest amount of extra space.

I hope to high heavens we don't lose Moura as you can't teach speed. He would be an amazing player to bring off the bench as is Lamela. And if he continues to improve under Poch, well then, that's a dangerous player.
Lamela uses the ball better in advanced positions than any player in our squad imo. He sees and executes little passes that nobody even sees. Eriksen hits single incisive passes, lamela can prove and recycle the ball in the last third fantastically well.

The most Betis have ever received for a player is £27m. Now suddenly they want three times that for a player? £50m is even huge for them, I doubt we will go too much higher than that and I suspect they will be very tempted at that figure.

I honestly don't get this line of thinking. It's not just you as other have mentioned it.

If a player's market driven value is £70M should his team accept much less just because they've never received that much before?!

It so, it then stands to reason that we should not have accepted RM's world record bid of £86M for Bale because we had never received anything near that amount before. Maybe we should have rejected that higher bid & countered with £52M. IE "thanks but we don't deserve that much."

It's flawed thinking.

If you have an asset, it's value is driven by the current market conditions.

Last couple of pages suddenly thrown me into some alternate reality.

There are people claiming Lamela is better than Moura when both are fit. While I respect views, my personal opinion is , we have seen injury prone Lamela & also fit Lamela. He has been in our club for 6 years now, same exact time as Eriksen. Lucas has played 1 full season. Pound for pound, I would argue Lucas is miles ahead of Lamela on what he has contributed to the team...I have to really scratch around to think & find 'big' games where Lamela has single handedly gave a match winning performance in PL or CL.

Except for the energy when he plays (with yellow cards), he doesnt bring much to the table. Opposition defenders are not scared of Lamlea on attack & everyone knows how to play against him. Show him in his right foot and you can get the ball or he can give the ball away. Lucas has the trick & pace to terrify defense and when it comes to crunch, can find the net in both foot.

6 years have gone by, its time to move Lamela on.

As for as Lo Celso, he can play anywhere , in CM or in wings or even as floating 9 (like he has done for Betis last season).

Some reports saying that Atletico Madrid have made a bid, probably a concern especially if they sell Griezman and Rodri.

I partially agree with you there but also thought he lost the ball in those same spaces making those killer passes. The positives outweigh the negatives for someone that does that as long as there is a reasonable return. I personally think his greatest contribution is the attitude though. Everyone else seems to take their aggressiveness up a notch when he gets into it. And while i agree with your position for the most part, i'm saying that the two players have different skill sets which means they impact the game differently and hence add value based on who we are playing and who is available on our squad.

Whilst I did not know where his preferred position was when we were first linked I have since found out he has played 8, 10, wing forward and false 9 on occasion.
As I reported when I discussed him with far more well read mates - it sounds like he is absolute mustard.

Respectfully, they share similarities but they are quite different players.

IMHO, Lamela's strength is his vision, tenacity & technical ability on the ball. Lamela's vision on the ball is better than anyone else's on the team. On occasion, he's even outsmarted his teammate's as they didn't read the opportunity he saw. He also makes intelligent runs off the ball. He's been deployed out wide many times but I feel he is most effective when just behind the striker.

He essentially epitomizes the type of player Poch wants.

It's a real shame hasn't been able to remain healthy for extended periods.

Moura has the pace, directness & trickery that frightens defenders thus creating time & space which leads to opportunities for himself & teammates. He was the game winner vs Ajax because he was leading the line of attack. It produced a fantastic result for us & I firmly believe that wouldn't have happened if Lamela was in that position. That position is not his strength, He is more effective slightly deeper &/or wider.

I rate both but they should be utilized differently.

Lo Celso is like a hybrid of these two.

Could definitely see that happening. One of the few teams I think would realistically be interested and I imagine he’d definitely be up for it too. JJ was confident seemingly though

All seems to go back to Estadio Deportivo who claim they've bid 55m euros and that it's not enough. They make sense and with the expected sell of Griezmann they'll have money and need for an AM/ST hybrid.

55m euros is less than our original reported bid amount that was leaked before a different bid amount was leaked the other day. No idea how reliable they are as they've also gone back and forth over Lo Celso.

Completely agree with you on the Lucas lamela comparison. However think I’d keep lamela.. purely because I think if we got Lo Celso and eriksen stays I don’t think we’d need to sign a kane deputy. Lucas son both capable through the middle (Lucas more so as he actually jumps for a header) to be fair to Lamela some of his best stuff has been when we’ve played a false 9. Lamela Lo celso son lucas eriksen dele then maybe add a young winger like Clarke think we’d be more than covered.

Not sure if it's been posted but here is Betis Manager discussing Lo Celso:

Rubi suggested that he doesn't need to talk up Lo Celso as his record speaks for itself, and believes that even if he does leave – and he hopes he doesn't – he will be given the money to spend on his squad.

“You always want to have the best players at your command and Lo Celso is, I don't have to talk about a player who, without being a striker, has scored 16 goals in his first season here, but I do say one thing. I have peace of mind that, if he has to leave, hopefully not, that money will be invested in improving the squad,” he added

We need to get this over the line soon.
The longer it goes the less likely we are to get him imo.
I think ITK hinted at deals to be done within two weeks, so I think this backs up my thought.
Others likely to join in as the summer progresses.

I’d put this one on the shelf for a bit because it won’t happen until after the Copa America.

Real Betis will absolutely use that competition to drum up interest or as a means to justify us having to pay his full release clause.

You can’t exactly blame them either, we’d do the same.

Or Betis wait and he blows out his knee during the tourney, and then they’re on the hook for his bumped up salary while he sits in rehab.

Everyone needs to be realistic and accept that we are not the top of the food chain. Selling clubs like Betis and Lyon are entitled to get the best deal they can for their Crown Jewels. Real Madrid and Barca are at the very top of the food chain, followed by Man C and PSG. Look at Real Madrid - they just spent £340M on 5 players in a couple of weeks. Their last piece of business will reportedly be either Pogba or Eriksen (press saying it’ll be Pogba), and that will then cause the chain reaction to the next tier of the food chain, which we are now banging on the door of. N’Dombele and Lo Celso are players we can get if we stay focussed and are a little patient. That said, Levy has to be prepared to negotiate quickly when that door opens.
