I actually do not think i am living in "fantasy", on the contrary it is those posters who refuse to acknowledge that Gomes has cocked up big time this season and defend him blindly who are actually in denial. yes the keepers you mention may have made mistakes and like gomes no one expects them not to make mistakes from time to time. it is the amount of STUPID errors he makes which make him a ticking time bomb, you have watched all the games this season im sure and do not have to go into detail. He is our last line of defence and we need him to step up at times and make a decision and not remain routed to his line. particularly the albrighton cross into the box.

Having watched the incident in slow motion, you would see lennon tracking albrighton and moving backwards and not closing him down, at one point he looks back to see where Hutton is as if he were gestering him for assistance. Lennon was maybe at fault for the cross coming in and he should have closed Albrighton down. ultimately Gomes needed to command his box and should have come forward and made an attempt to clear the ball. had he missed whilst doing so and the ball went in then i would not have blamed gomes as he attempted the save/block. the fact that he was indecisive is what gets me. his decision making is appalling. excellent shot stopper but poor at decision making.

Just as a point of correction, you are in fact making that particular statement.

Heurelho Gomes reflects on his time at Tottenham and playing while injured

Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has revealed he played injured while at Tottenham and had to ask his teammates not to pass back to him.

The Brazilian joined Spurs in 2008 from PSV Eindhoven and struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League.

The 37-year-old has explained how he played injured for 70% of the games in the first six months of his Tottenham career.

Speaking to The Offside Rule Exclusives, he said: “I remember my first six months was very difficult.

“I had a knock on my rib which meant I couldn’t dive to my right in training sessions. I would say I played 70% of games injured, because I wanted to show what I was capable of.”

Gomes was so determined to prove himself he pushed through the pain barrier but had to ask for help from his teammates.

“I remember playing against Manchester City with a groin injury which meant I couldn’t kick the ball,” he recalled.

“I had to tell the defenders to kick the ball forward and not to pass it back to me. If the ball was in my hand I could deal with it but I couldn’t kick it.

“Then Daniel Levy (Spurs chairman) came up to me at the end and said ‘please, we need you to play in the next game.’ So I was there again playing with an injury.”

After three seasons as Spurs’ No 1, the Brazilian found himself pushed down the pecking order as Brad Friedel arrived from Aston Villa forcing him out of the first team.

“It was a very tough time for me,” Gomes explained. “It was the first time that I had ever been in that situation but I can say I learned a lot.

“Luka Modric said to me ‘what are you still doing here? You can’t be here for so long you are a great keeper.’

“But I told him my time will come I don’t have to worry, I just have to work and work more.

“I was trying to ask myself why I wasn’t playing and maybe it’s because I didn’t deliver what they expected. I had a great time at Spurs and great memories but I was very upset at that time.

“I gave away so many opportunities too, I can’t just blame the manager.”

Despite being disappointed with how his career at White Hart Lane panned out, Gomes never gave up on his dream as he was determined to help his family.

“I know that as goalkeepers sometimes we have to put our lives in danger, the risk is minimal but it’s still there.

“Especially these days with football being more powerful and physical you have to be well prepared and know you’re in danger.

“But, I still try to do my best every day for my family.

“I got more than what I wanted I just wanted to give my family in Brazil a little bit of a better life but God gave me more than we deserved and more than I wanted.

“When I go home and see my mum in her house I sometimes think I’m dreaming.”

Made some incredible saves during his time with us. Saves pretty much no other keepers could make due to his octopus arms

Also made some incredible mistakes which lots of keepers would struggle to achieve!

When he was good he was brilliant. When he was bad, omg

Had to love him though. Good luck to him

Still annoys me that fans berate him for that "goal" against Chelsea. So it went through him. But he SAVED it. The only one who didn't do his job was that tool of a referee.

And that save from RVP's freekick in the NLD. As the late Ray Wilkins would have said "Oh my word!"

In the derby when Rose scored his screamer. Everyone remembers that, but not many people remember two sensational saves Gomes pulled off from two van Percy freekicks. Absolutely amazing goalkeeping.
Also the game when Sandro scored a screamer against Chelscum and Gomes was said to have pushed the ball over the line - with goal-line tech that would never have stood.
He was a breath of fresh air. The fact that he played injured and never let on is simply gobsmacking.

I can still see the look of absolute disbelief on RVP's face when he saved the second one. He was a wonderful shot stopper.

And even more importantly than the free-kick, the save from Campbell's bullet header from the resulting corner. Can you imagine if that twat had scored against us in front of the Park Lane in the second half of a North London Derby???

I'll never forget how spectacular he played in both legs of our AC Milan tie, especially away at the san siro. Gallas, Heurelho and an amazing Aaron Lennon run absolutely stole the tie for us. A top top Keeper performance.
