Heurleho Gomes, Tottenham's forgotten man for so long, has spoken extensively about his time at the Lane in an interview with the Mirror.

Tottenham did pay his wages throughout this time, though. And while he did have opportunities to leave, either the fee or his wages let him down. He's certainly not blameless in not being able to finalise a deal, even had a loan in Germany that didn't go too well.

No maybe about his consistency, either. He was brilliant and horrific at the same time. Amazing saves, like the free kick from RVP vs Arsenal and then countless silly errors like the Fulham game, the Chelsea game where it went through his legs, or the Blackpool game where he gave away a penalty after having saved a penalty.

We fucked him; he had to play behind a super wobbly defense and it ruined his confidence.

The defense had become wobbly because Robbo became wobbly, so we replaced robbo to stop the wobble in goal but failed to fix the wobble in the line in front of him.

Wibble-wobble.

Well, it would explain why AVB was in no rush to get Lloris between the posts

Thank god we ditched AVB, any coach would want Lloris.

I feel bad for Gomie but he was on a fantastic wedge and never looked to regain his form after his nightmare lapses and I honestly think the pressure would have destroyed him

No he just got figured out. He would come for everything and miss. So opposing teams would just float one in the box, wait for him to flap and then just knock it in.

Also didn't we agree a fee with PSV but he wouldn't take a cut in wages? £65k a week for sitting on the bench, my heart bleeds.

I remember the whole situation clearly and said the same thing at the time, as it all happened, because it was clear what would happen.

I was actually fascinated by robbo diving over balls at the time, that then whizzed under him into goal and watched how the defense's confidence slowly drained as the pressure on them to prevent shots on goal intensified.

Then when their confidence was shot we brought in gomes to plug the hole but it was obvious that any keeper brought in behind that - now very jittery - 4 would be in trouble eventually as it would rub off.

As we've seen, the part of the pitch that suffers most with even one weak link is the back 5 (defense/keepr), any of those becomes wobbly, it will affect the others.

World class keeper; got spursed.

Hope he gets back to his best.

So once again in overvaluating our unwanted player, Levy gets nothing after wasting years of wages. Same happened to Bentley.

Levy must calculate that we gain more in the long run if prospective buyers see that they won't get any of our players on the cheap.

Good shot stopper but everything that happened was down to his deficiencies, the club the fans and it seemed like the players wanted him to succeed but he was a bit of a pussy and this led to anxiety in our defense and everyone in the stadium. Any cross, throw or corner resulted in a general panic a bit like MD and the high line. Not sure about the truth of him not wanting to take lower wages to move but at the end of the day he was an accident waiting to happen and all our managers agreed. Glad he's gone, for him and for us.

Or maybe we tried to get rid of them but they wouldn't take a wage cut.

Don't always believe the player's side of the story.

Yeah, he was wobbly. But he was still better than a lot of the clowns who preceded him. I still think he was good enough to be number two. Relegating him to 3rd place but still keeping him was wrong in my opinion. He should've been at least loaned out to enable him to continue player. He's essentially had three years away from the professional game, from which he may never recover fully. It's all very well saying he was content to sit and get paid, but there were surely some solutions that could have been worked out, whether long term or short term, and I think the club gave him a disservice in that regard.

He spent a great deal of his time here playing under a defense of

Corluka - King/Woodgate - Dawson/Bassong - BAE

Considering Corluka and Dawson were actually good at that stage, it would be criminal to blame them for Gomes' deficiencies in the box.

Especially as Brad came in and it was suddenly much more organised.

Said it before and I'll say it again.. in the champions league qualifying season Gomes won us more points with some , quite frankly , ridiculous saves than he lost us with any mistakes made. In fact, we wouldn't have qualified without some of those saves he made in the run in.. It's just a shame he wasn't made of sterner stuff physically. Hope he does well at Watford...

World class saves here and there can never make up for a keeper who couldn't come and claim a delivered ball or at the very least, punch it clear.
As mentioned above, teams had his number as they would float balls in and around him and wait for him to flap, which he did more often than not and we paid the price.

A top bloke with the fans, but the premier league got the better of Gomes, not Spurs...he just wasn't cut out for the physicality of the game and was a liability.

On the flip side, the man was a top fella with the fans and I wish him success on his move...

He got paid handsomely for doing nothing but I do feel for him. Should have been treated better. Hope he does well at Watford.
