The result is the same. Not offside. Foy has no business officiating...period. That linesman should be dropped a few leagues.

Agree but it should be reported accurately. After all the officials are getting in the neck for getting it wrong.

Verts was well in Sunderland half when he ran on to the ball which was released to him when he was just in Spurs half making him "onside".

That's the correct analysis.

does everyone understand the rule? it is when the ball is passed to you, you are not offside if there is two players between you and the goal, or if you are in your own half. or in fact from a throw in too.
it doesn't mean anything where you are when you receive it, it's when it's played.
stating that as a few seem to not have a scooby.

I can imagine his actions being along the lines of super-smug uber-fail... you know that point where you might think you can pull something out of the bag that would make you look really clever, but then you realise you're all kinds of wrong.

:cautious: "hmm.. their goalkeeper is up, but I know a tricky little offside secret about having two men behind the ball if the keeper isn't there....."
:playful: "AWESOME - he's my chance; I've had a bad game but this will be on the back pages as a brilliant decision..."

*raises flag*

:smug: "I think you'll find that's offside"

Whether or not it sunk in afterwards is another thing, but I imagine he'll be mortified right now

Watched our game on Football First last night and when the incident came up even the co-commentator said "What's the rule here?" So even so called football experts don't know the laws of the game.

You do realise it's when the ball is passed, not when it is received. When the ball was passed, JV was inside our half. Not offside :banghead:

Yes I do but it is being widely reported that Verts was in his own half when he received the ball which he was not.

Not offside correct. In his own half when he received the ball not correct by some distance.

You said the media are correct in reporting Verts was in his own half when he received the ball.

Hilarious that this is even in question. I can get my gf to explain it to anyone that doesn't understand the offside rule.

Nah, I don't think that his club allegiance would have anything to do with his terrible decisions yesterday. He's just a shit linesman, that's all.

Agreed. He's shit cause he's a gooner.

I just don't get why no one in world football wants video calls like they do in hockey. It fucking works beautifully in hockey, and it would in football too. There's no logical reason to be against it.

Also, bad refereeing calls should be allowed to be criticized by managers and players if they are actually bad. This protectionism against horrible decisions is doing my head in.
