Nah, I don't think that his club allegiance would have anything to do with his terrible decisions yesterday. He's just a shit linesman, that's all.

Refs linos are human. As such bias is in their make up to varying degrees of restraint.

I knew him. Wouldn't say he's a hardcore gooner at all. I also wouldn't question his integrity... Just had a mare here I think rather than anything sinister...

That's ridiculous! He has clearly been kept in a dungeon at the Emirates and been systematically brainwashed under deep hypnosis. His 'decision' was triggered via an invisible ear-piece by an undercover gooner in the crowd using the coded message 'Arsene says now'. Any other explanation is absurd.

Yes I do but it is being widely reported that Verts was in his own half when he received the ball which he was not.

Not offside correct. In his own half when he received the ball not correct by some distance.

You said the media are correct in reporting Verts was in his own half when he received the ball.
Who gives a shit where he received the ball? It's completely irrelevant and nothing to debate about.

All good but by agreeing with media you also agreed he was in the Spurs half when he received the ball which he was not.

If people going to criticise it's important to get things right otherwise they just as bad as the lino.

Not in a million years would he risk his career by making an intentionally abysmal decision which would result in no real benefit to him or Arsenal and no real loss to us.

On what basis is he risking his career though? There have been some abysmal decisions over the years and if anything, since Riley took over, there has been less punishment for officials making a howler than ever before. All he has to do is apologise to Riley and maybe Pochettino for making a mistake and it will all blow over. I bet he wouldn't have made that decision against Chelsea though, Mourinho would've made it backpage news for a couple of weeks.

think this is just another glaring error that will be used in the need for a eye in the sky ref for decisions, taking the decisions out of the hands of inept officials.

This is actually not a joke.
Adam Nunn the linesman from todays game is a gooner. He is 29/30 and grew up in the same area as me (wiltshire). I see from a few of his friends on facebook they arr going to give him some shit for that.

Would you guys do the same at the death star?
No, because I am a Spurs fan and I would like to consider us as having class and being professional and I would not feel bad at for doing so.

Yes they are the scum, but I am better than scum.

does everyone understand the rule? it is when the ball is passed to you, you are not offside if there is two players between you and the goal, or if you are in your own half. or in fact from a throw in too.
it doesn't mean anything where you are when you receive it, it's when it's played.
stating that as a few seem to not have a scooby.

Pretty much. Just not the Linesman, Ref, 4th official or commentators

Everyone else does though

He is very young and has been highlighted in various media outlets, including MOTD which zoomed in on his face, as having made an incomprehensibly bad decision. He'll be absolutely mortified besides anything else.

He's certainly risking being demoted to a lower league, which happens all the time.

Saying he wouldn't have made the decision against Chelsea is just misunderstanding what happened. He didn't intentionally make a bad decision. He's just fucking useless.

I'm pretty sure that's what the FA will say to him.

Agree but it should be reported accurately. After all the officials are getting in the neck for getting it wrong.

Verts was well in Sunderland half when he ran on to the ball which was released to him when he was just in Spurs half making him "onside".

That's the correct analysis.
Yep. Point taken...just for clarification on my point. Foys Ref displays have been abysmal in numerous games in which we dont feature. The linesman got many wrong decisions before the calamity at the end.Its not good enough from the PL to put these people in a situation that they cant handle. PL fault not the officials.
Is it the PL who pick refs or FA?

I get that he's risking a possible demotion but if they're treated anything like referees then, yes, he may be demoted for a week or two before coming back into the fold. Demotions are much less common for referees these days though Riley seems to prefer to not risk openly hanging them out to dry(as the referees see it) and I'd be surprised if it's not the same for other officials too. As I said, I don't think any official would be risking their career by making a monumental cock up in what is a fairly low profile game.

I do hope you're right though and it does at least set his career back significantly as he's clearly not good enough.

Maybe I am leaping to conclusions with the bit about it not happening against Chelsea and he simply is just rubbish. I just can't understand how he could've possibly got it wrong though. There are several circumstances where I could've understood a mistake being made even when a player is onside by such a huge margin. Like if the ball was played 40+ yards, because it must be difficult for the linesman if he's looking down the line to know exactly when the ball was played as at best the passer is in his peripheral vision. I could also understand it if he was onside because of a player, with both running in the opposite direction. Or if there wasn't a great big white line running across the pitch that he could judge whether the player was onside against. Or if the ball didn't cross the bloody halfway line before the player. I know we're in agreement on the ridiculousness of the decision, by the way, I just don't understand how he could've genuinly got that one wrong.

Watching again on Match of the Day this morning I noticed that the same lino kept his flag down when Fletcher was slightly offside for what should've been a tap in. It was also the guy that Vertonghen was livid about after giving away the foul they scored from as he felt Defoe was offside(they didn't show a good replay of it). I'm not saying it's proof by any stretch but personally I think there's reason for suspicion.

Can't really see where the lino was at the time of the pass but judging from his positioning as he raised his flag it looks like he lined himself up with the furthest back defender rather than the second furthest back. It was the equivalent of the lino being level with the keeper and still trying to judge offside. That was his first mistake and it meant he was in a much more difficult position to judge whether Vert was offside. In the split second he's misjudged where Vert was. I doubt whether his mistake arose from him not knowing the rule but it was still a big error, and one for which he is culpable.

I don't think he was corrupt just stupid with only one thing on his mind, if a player receives the ball between last and 2nd last defender I'm flagging?
