Roberts is a complete and utter tool, but I wish we had a few more tools like him in the current side.

Played in a different era, but if around now would be our captain and first name on the sheet. We need some roll sleeves up and take no shit attitude in the side, Graham Roberts basically.

Two words. Michael Dawson. Now tell me Roberst wasn't (a) Braver (b) Better.

Happily, Roberts was harder but not necessarily braver and I can't see that he is better, naturally he got better as he gained experience and so will Dawson.

I did't want to get too far into an arguement, I respect your opinion on Graham Roberts I just don't agree.

If I had asked if we could have one former player to improve our current side, a good wholehearted defender, how many people would honestly have offered up Graham Roberts.

Yes of course I watched him I saw him play loads and he was an average player who wasn't good enough for our team now, he had a big heart and he was hard and as you say he had drive I'll certainly give him that but I listen to talksport and every time they want someone to put the boot in to Tottenham they get Graham Roberts and he duly obliges so he has pised me off big time and that is why I have broken my rule about saying anything detrimental about Spurs players.

Yes he's bitter now but he was a great player for us. Not in Roy Keane's league but the type of player every good team needs and we haven't had one like him for ages. The last was Freund and he was very average.

Much about nothing I think. I'm sure the arrangemments for that night were made well in advance of the initial Ramos affair - sounds like sour grapes to me!

Plus nobody is bigger than than the club - If he weren't there, he weren't there.

A few big names missing on the night and I recall a thread covering this very subject the following day. We only wanted 50 names there covering a realistic 50 year footballing period without digging up players and wheeling them on in wheelchairs.

Think of the other heroes who weren't there and Roberts would probably not have made it anyway if those had turned up.

i remember robbo put Nicholas in the kid enclosure at Highbury ,giving the north bank the v,When falco scored the winner.Remember his hatrick against Southampton the 30 yarders against Everton and Orient.I can remember Souness bottling it with him.
I saw nearly every game Roberts played for us and he was a bully on the pitch.
He will always be a hero for me at the time i use to critcise Roberts and Miller.
What i give for them now after watching Dawson and Kaboul at Centre back!
Average player my ass.

IIRC He had a black belt in martial arts of some sort.

Martial arts in hardness!

John Fashanu was a martial artist masquerading as a footballer and Lee Chapman was just a marital artist, that's why his wife only got a fat lip.

Paul Miller was a football thug. He invented pulling armpit hair when a corner was taken.

He was a cnut to play against and I was only 17 at the time.

As mentioned, he seems to have become a bit bitter of late, and is always critical (particularly towards the current board) in every media appearance.

Think it hurt him when the Board (in response to some criticism) not to invite him to the 125 yr parade. As one of THE most successfull, influential, and popular players in our recent history, who was desperate to participate (unlike some others who were invited) and genuinely upset at the Boards snub, which has caused him to attack us at every opportunity.

Average player ????? WTF ????

If you listed the best Spurs Centre backs over the last 30 years, he would get into almost everyones top 5/6, and probably squeak into all time top 10 !!!!

You consider that average????

Not only was Robbo a better CB than Dawson or Kaboul (so far) he was also a better mid than JJ Hudd Zokora etc ie all of our current lot (so far)

Only going back 30years with the last 15 being the worst in the last 70 odd years with players well below average is probably not a good measure really but:

Gary Mabbutt
Stevie Perryman
Sol Campbell
Ledley King
Richard Gough
Noureddine Naybet
Gheorgh Popescu

Better players all of them, not all gave the service but I don’t think that’s the criteria here I haven’t included any other current players as that would be contentious, same goes for Miller.

Not including Mike England, Alan Mullery, Dave Mackay, Phil Beale, Maurice Norman or even Willie Young as they go back another 10 years but if we’re talking all time top ten don’t forget Ron Burgess, Bill Nicholson and Tony Marchi..
