For all that Pep has done, and he's done a lot I admire more a manager like Benitez who has stuck with his team when relegated, brought them back up on an extremely limited budget and now has them in a very acceptable position (based on money spent in the transfer market) in the league. Pep inherited a massively expensively assembled group of players and to his credit, plus spending another fortune on players he considered needed, has moulded them into a first class team.

Of course ManC have spent a lot of money, but you only have to look at ManU, PSG, Barca, Real Madrid, Chelsea etc to understand that spending huge sums doesn't always equate to good football or league success. And it should also be acknowledged that Guardiola hasn't really spent ludicrous amounts on flamboyant super star galacticos, his record signing is Laporte, a 57m CB. Only 17m more than our record. To balance that off you have to accept that their wages are huge, and that is usually far more correlative to success.

But at least with Guardiola you get someone who makes every penny work, teaches players, improves players individually and teams collectively, gets teams playing a brand of football that is exceptional, delivers results and championships (and trophies).

You don't just get a cuckoo who sneaks in, relies purely on a cheque book or arch pragmatism to bore the shit out of the rest of the league. Guardiola's teams take football to a different level. He is an incredibly intense coach who manages to combine those two rare things in tandem, success and artistry.
