Ha, the Barca tapping up tactics continue even after the player has retired.

1.) Guardiola thinks it's important to sign English players
2.) Xavi thinks Ali is the best English player at the moment

Somehow that translates to Guardiola putting in a world record bid for Ali.

I need a job with the Mail.

Hardly. The Mail are scum but if those quotes are real, Xavi is saying exactly what the piece suggests. No leaps made

The whole heading says they're going to make a world record bid for him. No where in any quote does it say this.

Ok the world record is a leap. But that's just common sense as we wouldn't sell him for less. But those quotes are pretty clear on everything else

If City are willing to pay him 5 or 6 times what he's getting at the moment it will be difficult to keep him. Hopefully he is committed to our project but it's a big ask to expect him not to have his head turned by the sort of money they'd offer him.

Hopefully Levy won't entertain any offers, but if City offer £150m or more he'd surely have to have a think about it.

150 million?! Levy won't turn down a world record bid, which stands at 90 million. To be fair, how many clubs can turn down that kind of money? The likes of Man Utd and Juve couldn't

luckily for us (if you can call it that) a player like DellI will interest Real and we are more likely to sell to them than a Prem based team. £150m is silly talk in all honesty

Actual quote:
“I speak with Pep, and I know he thinks it is important to sign English players,” the former midfield maestro said, as quoted by the Sun. “I am sure in the summer he will look across Europe for players to improve the squad, but I also expect him to look in the Premier League as well. At the moment the best English player there is and also one of the best in Europe is Dele Alli. We are looking at a very special player. Technically he is the sort of player that suits the style of football that Pep likes his teams to play. I am sure it is not going to be a player that Tottenham will want to let go, but we know Manchester City have big resources.”

So nothing there at all to say Pep is definitely going to make a record breaking offer for Alli.
Oh and the quote comes from The Sun originally, so 90% of it is probably made up.

If pogba is £90m, then you have to look at at least £120m-£150m for Dele. Crazy money, wouldnt want to lose him but what can we do. We can only say no for so long.

To reflect his proper value, it would have to be a fee that even Man City cannot afford. By definition.

Not because anyone can work out a figure that accurately represents his value, but simply because it has to be beyond the means of a club that just decides they want him.

On top of which, however high the fee, it will escalate the fee for other quality players, so will immediately diminish in value. What £100m buys today, it will not buy if Dele is sold for £150m, if you see what I mean.
