1.) Guardiola thinks it's important to sign English players
2.) Xavi thinks Ali is the best English player at the moment

Somehow that translates to Guardiola putting in a world record bid for Ali.

I need a job with the Mail.

You need to start practicing crawling under rocks then.

Let's hope we'd have learnt our lesson from last time :censored:
What would worry me, is we over pay to get a player that Poch wants because we have the money. It's absolutely right he should have the last say, there is no way Levy can refuse him.

But this is all hypothetical anyway as Alli isn't going anywhere.

That's almost inevitable as clubs would know we have money to spend but yeah you're right hypothetical.

Even if Poch, Levy and the Heavenly Choir
state categorically that he is not for sale at any price
this will be seen as a negotiating tactic.

All I can say is that in a years time
he will be worth even more.

Think about it Daniel.

If we sell him then we may as well pack our bags and go home, you can't replace world class talent.

Dele has a higher ceiling than Bale, he will go on to be one of the best players in English football, maybe even in the world, we would be utterly stupid to sell him, even if it's a "world record fee" because you cannot replace a player like him.

It is critical we sell no-one this season if we are serious about winning the league (ever).

We are within touching distance of doing that for the first time in virtually a lifetime. Selling any key player will make that less likely. That is a bad decision, not just in football terms, but in commercial terms. Winning the league would transform the value of the club and it's players.

I am sure Levy knows that and will not entertain bids for any of our key players. If he does, then he is really saying that he is more interested in short term profit than (a) football success and (b) long term gain.

That would be very short sighted. I am looking at a very expensive season ticket at our new ground. If he does start selling players, I (and those like me) will decide it's not worth the money if there is no commitment to football success but just profit taking.

I don't think Levy is that short sighted.

"Technically he is the sort of player that suits the style of football that Pep likes his teams to play."

This is equally true of Spurs, and he seems very happy doing just that.

This is first time in my life I clicked on "winner" without a millisecond hesitation.
For us no money can replace the best talent. Did we replace Bale with that money?

I doubt Levy would ever sell to a domestic rival even if the player was itching to go and the money was silly.

The money you'd need to pay to secure Dele is not money anybody would be prepared to pay at this point in his career. Some day, maybe, but not now.

Imagine the free kicks he'd earn if he played for someone like ManU or Real - every time he was clattered from behind the refs would be reaching for a card rather than playing on (like on Saturday).

Even if we were to sell him for a 150 million I have doubts we would spend it properly.

You mean like spending £5m on Alli? Or £11.5m on Toby? Or maybe £11m on Wanyama? £4m on Dier, anyone?

Yeah, you could do a list of shit purchases too (I'll start you off: Sissoko for £30m) but it's amazing how everyone remembers the shit purchases but not the good ones. Our success rate is probably no better or worse than other clubs.

With a net spend of fuck all and a current second position in the league, I'd be inclined to claim it might actually be slightly better...

We WILL sell him at some point, its inevitable so be realistic. Its unlikely he will want to spend his whole career here and not want to test the waters to see how much he can win. That potential wont be realized at Spurs in his playing lifetime I dont think, so... Lets hope he gives us a good few years yet though.

Like I said in my later post it would be mixed bag. But a signing that doesn't work out hurts us more than our other 5 rivals.
Especially an expensive one. Adebayor had a cheap transfer fee and high wages, he was a problem for two managers, that kind of signing can set the club back for a couple of seasons.
