I worry that we started this inflated transfer window last summer when we signed Sissoko for £30m. I think we officially broke the transfer window.
It's been on the path to broken for a while but I believe this year with clubs like Man City, PSG, and Everton setting the standard that they will pay anything to get a target while clubs are now in the position where survival and success breeds more profit than transfers puts them in a stronger position.

That's because he's at Everton just finishing his medical
Yeah I know. Just I mentioned on the Sanchez thread that he was part of the squad at the Swansea training ground yesterday. My parents live opposite so we walk our dog alongside the training pitches.

Officially confirmed as an everton player, and we receive 4.5m sell-on clause. May affect Barkley's deal too. Thread can be closed now.

Top player Gylfi, I always wonder what could have been if he had stayed longer with us and we built a team around him.

Things are going well for Everton - Rooney has hit the ground running, Pickford looking imperious, and now Siggy will be full of confidence.

Still think they are well short of top four. But fair play...

From Sky Sports

Why is Gylfi Sigurdsson still struggling at Everton?

My answer is simple - we sold him for what he was worth and Everton massively overpaid.
They remind me of Man City in the early days - spending stupid money on players that weren't worth it - Santa Cruz for example.

Siggurdson is a great player for a mid to low table side, he’s great technically, and has a good work rate, but he needs plenty of space and time on the ball to affect the game. Something he couldn’t get at Spurs and something he will always struggle to get at Everton.

Swansea was perfect for him, the team was set up around him and he flourished because no one sets up to get a draw against Swansea.

This.

He’s bang average and people who kept wanting him back after he did well at Swansea couldn’t seem to see it was his level.

He’s not bang average, that’s not what I was saying. He’s a good player, he’s just isn’t going to suit playing in a top side that invariably have to constantly break down stubborn defences. Everton massively overpaid for him, but as far as Swansea are concerned I would bet they wish they’d got twice as much for him and Llorente now.

He was consistently very good at Swansea for three years. I don't know why it's not working at Everton yet - playing with three different managers certainly doesn't help - but he's an intelligent player with very good end product.

Not disputing he’s a good player but Swansea was around his level in this league - lower to mid-table.

He is a good source of goals and his set piece taking is consistent but in open play he hasn’t shown he his of the level to play for a champions league chasing team.

Maybe he will come good as don’t like to make final judgement on most players, but so far in his career he hasn’t shown anything above Swansea as his level and could never understand why people were so keen to have him back here.

He's plenty good from open play. He creates and scores a lot in a bad team at the top level. Playing with better and more intelligent players should so see him thrive. I don't buy the whole playing at a bad team makes it easy argument that people use. If it did then the scoring and assisting charts would be filled with players from lower down the table.

Look at his three year stats at Swansea compared to De Bruyne and Eriksen last year, two of the best in league in two of the best teams where they get more chances to create/score. Bar chances created one season, which was still decent, they weren't too far apart.

I think he joined us at a bad time. AVB's teams were offensively challenged and then Sherwood took over. He needs good movement around him, which we didn't have at the time, and I think he'd have great success picking out the likes of Alli, Son and Kane. He'd be great in the Eriksen role. Poch himself said he would been perfect for us.

Plus he counts as home-grown.
