for about £18/£20m of modric dough could buy both allen and dembele without breaking the bank and play the trio of allen - sandro - dembele behind bale - no9 - rafa/gylfi dont think we'd miss modders with that combo.

Allen is fantastic and will be a star and I'd love him at Spurs, but I'd like to point to another player here: Tom Carroll. He obviously needs a few more years, but he looked tidy enough in the EL and with a bit of rotation he could become a great player.

I think that if we are working off the basis of the Players we CURRENTLY have and with the signing of SIG and VERTON and that it at the moment and with MODRIC gone our best team at the moment would be

----------------Friedel
walker----kaboul---vertong-----BAE
-----------------Parker
------------sig--------vdv-----------
lennon----------------------bale
-----------------defoe-------------

now we all know that we are and have to be in the market for some strikers and one of them will go in place of defoe. but other than that we have a very good team even with modric gone. we have Sandro to come into that mid to rival parker or partner him against specific teams.

we then have hudd back and livermore.

but we need some competition for RB and LB, and for RM as without bale and lennon (if they get injured or banned) our pace other than Walker is gone. and pace is a huge attacking threat!!

oh and we need a new GK to have a season with Friedel and then take over!!

While there are some very good footballers in that team, I'd fear they'd get overrun in midfield. VDV showed for Holland that while going forward he could dictate the game for them, he offered nothing in a defensive capacity. With MOdric gone, and with Parker having shown obvious fatigue towards then end of the season, its time to unleash the Beast - Sandro.

Sigurdsson will offer quality competition to VDV, and maly allow VDV to drop deeper into midfield on occasions, but for most games next season, I believe we'll see a base of Sandro and Parker in the middle. Infact, if anyone, it may even be Parker the odd man out. Sandro showed he is the complete box to box midfielder. Can tackle, shoot, run all day, dribble and pass adequately enough.

This isnt he place for it, but I'd suggest we enjoy Sandro next season. If we dont get champions league football, he could well be off.... and for more money than we get for Modric this window.

Sandro a defensive mid going for more money than Modric after potentially one season as a regular. I`d laugh if I didnt think you meant it.

Firstly Sandro isn't just a dm, secondly he recently captained Brazil and thirdly, other countries don't have the same love in with players like parker that we do. I like Parker, I think he is one of the very best at what he does, but Sandro is a vastly better player as will be demonstrated this season.

Sandro has admirers across Europe you can be sure of that, anybody that saw his immense display at the San Siro can be in no doubt that he has the potential to go and be one of the best Midfielders (all-round) in the world.

I'm not sure he would go for 40, but 30 certainly isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

Levy is such a boss.

Keep pusing us forwards with class players for low fees. very impressive how he manage this with todays crazy prizes.

Feel so lucky to have Levy as chairman, would not change him for anyone!

How can anyone not have Sandro as the first name in midfield ? Different class to any other midfielder we have, including Modric. Just hope he is fit and stays that way. If he stays fit then watch him make Yaya Toure look distinctly average as a box to box midfielder. Yes I think he really is that good.

I think this thread is a waste of time. I dont think there is any chance we will sign this guy as we dont need him. I am an Icelander but I dont think he is a player to suit us. Ok he would probably guarantee us 10-15 goals from midfield a season but he would take off space from other players who could become more involved in the attacking play, rather than being the ones to end the attacks with shots from everywhere.

Well the thread is certainly not a waste of time because he is being heavily linked with a move to us, its been in papers and on Sky Sports news over here, so of course there would be a thread about him (regardless of how well he will or won't suit us)

What I was saying, rather than having one player who ends attacks with shots and occasional goals (10-15) I would rather have more players to end them and thus maybe score more goals.

I know pace aint everything, but who would win in a 50 yard sprint between Sig, Hudd, and Kane?

That doesn't sound very AVB-like to me. Imo Parker will be the one who loses out. Hopefully we'll get a creative midfielder like Sahin, Moutinho, or Dembele to replace Modric, but if not I think a midfield of SAndro, Sigurdsson, and VDV would be effective.

i think it would be one of Sandro (my no1 choice by far) and a creative but combative player alongside him

dembele/moutinho i would love .. sigurdsson wont be that type of player but most definetly will be a valuable asset to the squad

Agree with you about being in a 2, but think an incoming manager will play 4231, 433 or 4-4-1-1 most of the time so think what you are saying is that he could play in two of those formations (4231 and 433) with VDV potentially, but in a 4411 it would be likely to be him or VDV - is that correct ?
yeh him or vdv for me or its him on wing where he lacks pace to be effective

Think our front 6 would look more like this

Bale----------Defoe----------VDV
Moutinho----sandro---------Sig
