West Ham manager Alan Curbishley is lining up a move for Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner.

The former Port Vale trainee has managed just two appearances for Spurs this season and has been overtaken by Michael Dawson and Calum Davenport as preferred partners for skipper Ledley King.

The Hammers interest could raise question marks over the future of Anton Ferdinand at Upton Park with the defender reportedly part of the 'Baby Bentley' culture that Curbishley is keen to eradicate.

    and...

    Chelski want Kanoute

A few reports are flying round linking Kanoute with Chelsea this morning. apparently they are concerned that if Drogba gets injured they won't be able to rely on Shevchenko or Kalou for goals.

I think we should sell him for 2-3 million and then buy curtis davies or matthew Upson.
As for that kanoute romour, i think that is a load of rubbish i cant see chelsea wanting him to be honest.

Get rid sure, but we need backup first - with all the reports about Davies maybe we are at least looking for adequate backup.

If anyone were to leave from our CB's, I would like it to be Tony. I don't think he's of the quality that we need to progress.

I can see how Kanoute would become desirable (in that he's become a success elsewhere) but when you think that they let someone like Crespo go, why go for someone like Kanoute?

i think its time for gardner to move on, to me he doesnt fit into the plans, even if we dont get a replacement get rid coz we have dawson, king, davenport, dervitte, huddlestone, chimbonda who can all play CB.

If Gardner wasnt injured all the time i would say keep him he could become a very good center back but he is always injured so he never can get a rythm going. He has pace and hieght and would help us play higher up the pitch as i cant see anyone beating him for pace over a bit of a distance he is very quick. Playing Chimbonda at CB or the Hud is a big mistake as we would really be sacrificing some of our best payers in there best positions. who would we play at right back if we play Chim and CB ? i think thats not a good idea. Dervitte ? i am not sure he is a solution either we need anohter center back with pace talent and premier league experince when King is injured we struggle.

I think Gardner would fit in our plans if he was Fit all the time.

Kanoute well thats a good one, he can hold the ball up very well and has experience but i think he is to lazy for chelsea.

This would be good for all parties, Gardner needs firat team football and we need a better quality back up for the King. Wouldnt mind getting Anton in exchange for Gardner + a few millions but dont see Spammers letting him go.
I still rate Kanoute very highly, was a mistake to sell him and Im sure hed do a great job for Chelsea but I doubt Sevilla would sell while theyre top of La Liga.

Poor lad going to West Ham, wish him the best though - I think with a decent run in the team he could be good for them.

I would be gutted to see Kanoute at Chelsea, he was good for us I thought and I'm pleased he's doing well at Seville, at Chelsea I'm sure his career would stall.

How about the Israeli Bolton lad ( I thinks its Ben seomething ! whose name I have forgotten), he seems very versatile

    Would love to get Ayala

I would like Gardner to be playing now ahead of Davenport. If Ledley is going to struggle for fitness then we will need Gardner.

Davenport can play alongside Ledley but there's no calm head when he plays with Dawson. Similarly, the King-Gardner combination is, in my experience, a bit too lacking in aggression, although it's a long time since we saw it, and King has come on a long way in that time.

Gardner can go if Curtis Davies or Micah Richards comes in. Or maybe Upson.

As for Kanoute - a huge loss when he left, and I don't doubt he'd be excellent for Chelsea. If they want him, and he fancies it, Sevilla won't be able to stop it.

Think he might as well go, as long as we either sign someone better or Jol thinks someone in the reserves can stepup if needed.

However I doubt we would get more than 1 million for him, he has hardly played for over a year now.
  12. davidmatzdorf
I'm not sure about that. Kanouté's career took off again when he left English football. He's scoring prolifically in La Liga and that was never true in the Premiership. If I were Fredi, I wouldn't have any inclination to move back here, even to a club in the Champions League.

And why on earth would Sevilla sell him? They're contending for next year's Champions League, they're favourites for this year's UEFA Cup and he's their main goal scorer.

Their finances are best served by getting into the CL, not by selling off a player they only just paid £5m for.
  13. davidmatzdorf
I think it would be more than that, as Gardner signed a new contract very recently.
  14. striebs
The same argument applies if Berbatov were to get injured . We wouldn't be able to rely on Mido or Defoe (who needs Berbs) for goals .
  15. dontcallme
Gardner like Davenport, Murphy, Keane, Defoe or any Spurs player who doesn't play for 2 games is linked with a move to a random club.

Gardner though is looking increasingly unlikely to play very much, but i don't see us getting more than £1 million for him.

Still if he wants to leave for more football there's little point holding onto him, i think he's easily replaceable
  16. LionKing
I think we should keep Gardener he showed his worth last season and earned himself a new contract. We fans let the the press turn us against our own players to easily. Sure gardner has been prone to the odd mistake, but i for one would never question his commitment. I hope he stays and proves us all wrong.
  17. Happy_Yid
I certainly do not begrudge Gardner moving ,the lad deserves 1st team football. Maybe we should try to do a deal with Anton coming our way as part of the transferl. his face doesn't seem to fit at the Spammers at the momment
  18. pistolP
Sign or bring Kanoute back and while we are it keep Gardner as i think baring injury he will be a very good player for us, but he is always injured.
  19. Shirtfront
I think people forget that Garnder was once as highly rated as King and was in the England frame for quite a while. I agree he hasn't developed as we would like, but I think part of the reason he didn't, while King did, is because each of them needed to be partnered with a different type of centre half to perform at their best and develop. They were too similar in the right and the wrong ways. Gardner couldn't stay fit and, with hindsight, had to give way to the more talented King.

Oh, and as for Curnbs wanting him, that has a hell of alot more to do with the fact he rates him as a footballer than anything to do with the "Baby Bentley" culture at West Ham, which is jus the sort of catch phrase the mail loves to throw around. Bear in mind Gardner was on his way to Charlton when Curbs was in charge until injuries forced us to pull out at the last minute. But Gardner is as much Baby Bentley as Anton (always sporting a WAG, a sicknote and some bling); and probably not as talented. Besides, the Spammers would lynch Curbs if another Ferdinand was sold now.
