Didn't realise how hard some players find passing forward until I saw Zokora and Jenas. Carrick made it look so easy.

Strange to relate, he has a pass completion rate of 84%, unless my sums are seriously wrong (374/447), as near as dammit the same as Zokora's. On the face of it, that is pretty good, but you've got the same questions about both of them, and this afternoon you've got to say they were both rather anodyne. JJ actually did play a couple of very good forward passes just before he was subbed, but otherwise it was mostly sideways and backwards from both, and they had far more time on the ball than they'll get on Sunday.

One thing the mostly shite commentators did point out correctly was that Bent made some great runs which completely escaped the midfield. The cameras picked a couple of them up. Defoe got next to no service too.

Work in progress.

the zokora JJ combo was as dour and depressing as ever today unfortunately. the reason both have a high pass rate is because all they do is pass sideways and backwards. how often do either of them make a 'killer ball'?

it's a pretty sad state of affairs when JJ is our best central midfielder. nothing personal against the guy but if we have any aspirations of going places, JJ should be struggling to make our bench let alone be our best midfielder despite putting in a performance every 4 matches and barely ever getting our of 2nd gear.

For a player who spends so much time on the floor during games, that is probably a more effective warm up for him than jogging. He is going to spending alot of time on the ground during the match so it makes sense for him to get used to it. You wouldn't want a striker to not have a few warm up shots before a game would you?.

No, it's pretty true. Personally, I found it utterly depressing to see almost every player playing so much worse than they were a year or two ago.

I think this pretty much sums it up for me.
I can't remember being depressed after a win... against 10 men for 40 minutes and content to pass it around so slowly that I'm surprised the crowd didn't fall asleep.

Where is the zip and speed for a team looking to turn around their fortunes?

On a another note, Chimbonda looked such a liability to me in central defense. He did improve in the second half but in that first I can't remember anyone given the ball away so many times in a match.
What has happened to out defense?! We look like we've forgotten how to play and please, please don't say becasue of Ledley as he barely played last year, whats changed?!!

we were 2-0 up, why should we up our game - all we had was close it out - which we did - and incidentally a good way to close a game out is to slow it right down, kill the passions and send people to sleep - give me soporific 2-0 away wins all season long

I still think steed should play in the middle to be honest. He's easily our best midfielder at the moment and I think he could do more from the centre where the current incumbents are all being useless.

When Bale's back I say get him on the left and Steed in the middle.

I've said it for ages, I wouldn't be suprised if we see it happen when monkeyboy is fit.

But we got very sloppy and had Robbo not come to the rescue, and infact a slightly better side(think they had 10 men at that point also) would have, given the openings we gave them would have atleast pulled one back, then it becomes less comfortable.

You can look at it two ways i suppose, yes why should they break their necks, 2-0 up against 10 fucking baboons, but you could also say, it was a good chance for a few players to show what they can do and i dont think against that shower of shit, they wud have had to break much of a sweat in doing so.

I thought the defence tried to play a good 10-15 yards further up the pitch when the opposition had the ball. Robinson needs to be much quicker off his line if we are going to play that way.

2-0 up we always have something to lose, no make that three, can you imagine if we let in a goal at 80mins yesterdays, Fred Karnos Army happens and backs to the wall for a dishonourable draw and possible UEFA exit.
