Wouldn't have been so happy if he'd got a red card for that dreadful tackle. Enthusiasm is great but he needs to keep a lid on it. Apart from that I thought he had a great game. He kept it going for 80 minutes whereas Bentaleb disappeared at half time. I aslo thought he was more influential than Eriksen who was outstanding last season. Hope Holtby gets his chance.

Reminds me of Gazza. With less talent.

What I mean is, his enthusiasm rules him and he's teetering on the edge of a red card or conceding a penalty almost all the time.

All that dropping deep to collect the ball is all very well, but he tends to just pass it backwards.
No defender is being pulled out of position either.
It is a lot of effort for nothing.

But his runs into the box are effective - he really wants to score.

if in your eyes running about like a headless chicken gets your vote for man of the pre season matches so be it
i have seen plenty of this type of player domingues;jenas;ghaly;to name three of the top of my head
the real quality players do not run about like a lunatic awaiting a yellow or red card
the best players seem to make space and time to play with the minimum of fuss
i will be amazed if this player starts the season as no 1 choice
i await the abuse stating i dont understand football
it escapes me what this player has done to make him so popular with so many
whereas the likes of huddlestone recieved dogs abuse from many on this site but to my eyes a far better midfielder than holtby

This is a very good point. A lot of running and eagerness with very little tangible output. Excellent crosser though. Needs to mature a bit. Also, I find him a little irritating (maybe I should have saved that for the amnesty thread).

Headless chicken quotes seem to be the words of choice to describe Lewis Holtby. Now lets be fair and clear he is far from that, a player that effortlessly gets about the pitch takes up both good defensive positions but more impressively finds attacking spaces to assist.

I might be wrong about him or maybe I don't see what seems to be a majority of posters who don't rate Holtby as a productive player. I have to admit whenever seeing Holtby play I'm impressed...Imo we should make more use of him in our starting 11.

He gets in the box well, doesn't hide and is a very clever player. There was the Townsend goal last season where he ducked out of the way and it went straight in and Saturday was a very smart pull back for Ades goal. I like to see intelligence in footballers, makes the game worth watching.
