Spurs boss confident on defender's fitness.

Harry Redknapp is confident that William Gallas will arrive at the club in good shape, although admits the deal to bring him to Tottenham has not yet been completed.

The former Arsenal defender is set to sign a one-year contact at White Hart Lane as he joins his old side's North London rivals.

He is expected to link up with the squad next week, and Redknapp believes the Frenchman is 'as fit as a fiddle'.

Asked if a deal had been completed, the Spurs boss told Sky Sports: "I'm not sure. He came in today and finished his medical this morning. I couldn't get hold of a physio.

"I think everything is okay with him and I think he is as fit as a fiddle probably. He certainly looks fit enough and I'm sure he'll be a big asset to us."

Tottenham dug in deep on Saturday to record a 2-1 victory over Stoke City at the Britannia, and now will be preparing for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League showdown with Young Boys of Berne.

Spurs take a 3-2 deficit into the second leg of the crunch tie, and Redknapp revealed that the players who received knocks on the plastic pitch last week might not recover in time.

Asked if they would return, he remarked: "I wouldn't be sure. Five of them got injuries from the pitch. Ledley (King) will be available, I didn't risk him today. He could be okay.

"(Younes) Kaboul came in and was excellent I thought at centre-half. He headed the ball away and did a great job.

"Him and Michael (Dawson) were strong today so we'll have enough players."

Great shout to put Kaboul in there today he headed away so many crosses.

Kaboul has really impresed me. And I think Daws and Gallas will be an excellent centre back pairing when the King is not available.

I would actually like to see Kaboul given a run at right back. I thought he was excellent last season when he played there on a couple of occassions and I think Corluka, although decent, is probably our weakest link...

I think harry put Kaboul in today to combat their ariel threat from set pieces, he's a man mountain!, i gota say though, his positioning at times is aweful and i was cringing time after time, i am praying he will get better as a player.

Talking about positioning, I am really worried about Gomes's start to the season, he made me a tad uncomfortable today, one min he's class the next he's stranded and nowhere.. hoping its a bit of rustyness.

To be fair, i think JJ put himself about well today, made some vital blocks and his pass to put Bale through was great.

Good win today although if i'm fair i feel we got away with it a bit, cheers ref, I cant remember us having a clear chance in the 2nd half, maybe its our turn for a bit of that luck weve not been getting for ages.

Really looking forward to weds, i hope and pray that Defoe, Modric and Pav will be fit.

I hear you, but what made me uncomfortable yesterday, was the refree allowing dirty Stokes players to kick, foul, impede and push Gomes every time ball came into our penalty box.

i think it was not one of Gomes best days but got away with it
and i think Gallas will be a big plus in the side
