RE Ryan Mason

The 20-year-old midfielder agreed to sign for the Lions at the beginning of January on loan for the rest of the season, but promptly suffered a groin injury and is still at White Hart Lane receiving treatment.
"I'm not too sure when he'll be back," said Millwall assistant manager Joe Gallen.
"We thought we would have him by now but that's not going to be the case until towards the end of the month.
"He picked up a groin strain and Tottenham want to make sure he is 100 per cent right before he comes to us.
"We are disappointed that we haven't got another option because he's a good attacking player who could help us."

Hmm he does seem to pick up these injuries

All the atributes to suggest that (eg phenomenal goal record in under 18's as a no 10 to Obika's no 9) and continued into a loan last season with Yeovil, but since then injuries have interrupted progress.

Plagued by injuries recently. I feel and fear for the lad because he definitely has talent.

Edit: Ryan Mason post.

1526: It's all Millwall at the New Den. Harry Kane blazes over from two yards out at the back post when it looked easier to score while a fine save from Bartosz Bialkowski denies Darius Henderson.

Doh!

Mason did ok for a first match back, in what was a pretty chaotic game.

Two mistakes but 10 or more good touches in about 15 minutes.

Him and Kane were taking the corners and freekicks when they came on - generally decent - which is a good sign I guess.

Kane was always looking to get on the ball, which is good to see from a young player, but I felt both struggled to really get in the game. Might have just been the match conditions - West Ham had all their men back, and Millwall lacked real width, making ti very congested in the middle

Both Mason and Kane completed 90 minutes in the 3-2 away win over Southampton.

For Mason that's a good start as due to injury he only started 2 games at Doncaster in the first half of this season and 5 only last season.

No sign of Falque for Southampton though

Harry Kane and Ryan Mason helped Millwall into the fifth round of the FA Cup with a dramatic replay win at Southampton on Tuesday night.

Both played the full 90 minutes as the Lions won a thriller 3-2 in injury time to set-up a home match against Bolton on February 18.

Harry, leading the line in a 4-3-3 system, provided assists for two of the three goals, including that late, late winner for Liam Feeney.

The young striker teed up Liam Trotter for the opener on 17 minutes.

Midfielder Ryan had a chance to double that lead but fired wide in the 34th minute.

The home side soon hit back through Adam Lallana and then took the lead with 15 minutes remaining via Ricky Lambert.

Undetered, Millwall levelled through Danny N'Guessan and then Harry set-up the winner, taking a quick free-kick to Feeney who drilled home the winner.

Meanwhile Yago Falque, currently on loan at Southampton and John Bostock, on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, who lost out to Blackpool in a replay last night, were cup-tied after featuring in our third round win against Cheltenham at the Lane.

He drops in to positions very much like VDV, even sometimes into his own half if he wants to dictate play

Hasn't really been in the game tbh, good work ethic though and hasn't lost the ball a lot. Couple of driving runs from midfield and a couple of shots but most of the time he's not involved tbh, a bit disappointing

Kane 80 mins before being subbed, Mason unused sub when Milwall lost 2-0 at home to Bolton.

BBC :
Liam Trotter's long-range effort did test Bogdan, who soon after made a point-blank save from Kane and then Henderson as the rain started to lash down.

According to Millwall forums, Kane was being played as a midfielder with Henderson and Keogh (new signing in January TW) up front - and Kane is not a midfielder.

Not sure with the signing of Keogh from Wolves that Kane and Mason are going to get as many chances as we would like them too.

While I agree with you that Kane is not a midfielder, it might help his game to develop as he will have to get involved more, dictate play a bit more, and be aware of the forwards more. Good to see he is still playing even with the introduction of Keogh

I guess my point is that with Henderson and new signing Keogh (signed after Kane and Mason went on loan) in the side, Millwall will tend to start with those two, and then try to slot either Mason or Kane into midfield (I cannot see both starting in midfield without one or both being on the wing) unless they start to play 433, so playing time in their preferred positions will be at a premium.

Whilst I agree young players should play in other positions to help their game develop, its also helpful if they also have plenty of chances to play in their preferred position !

My Millwall mates are giving Kane reasonably good reviews - they seem to appreciate that he's a talented young player, but are more frustrated at Jackett playing him as a CM...
