Harry Kane expects to remain at Tottenham this summer if the club has not reached an agreement with Bayern Munich before the opening game of the season in less than two weeks' time.

Kane has made it clear that he plans to stay at Spurs if he lines up at Brentford in their Premier League opener on August 13, believing it would be unfair on the club and new head coach Ange Postecoglou to leave after the start of the campaign.

"If he does stay put this summer, Kane is prepared to negotiate a contract extension with the club during the early months of the upcoming season if they show significant progress on the pitch under Postecoglou."

Absolutely buzzing! How could we fail to improve after taking such significant steps to address our worst defensive performance in the history of the Premier League by signing two top centre backs and giving the new manager the whole of pre-season to bed them in! Clean sheets R US.

I struggle to believe that has come from the Kane camp. Just people making it up.

what sort of significant progress would we need to make! We could sign peak maldini, baresi and Ledley king and we aren’t challenging for the sort or trophies he is after immediately. He’s not buying into another project. It’s going to take time realistically, we know that.

Breaking back into the top four would be a massive achievement next year but that is not enough for Kane.

He’s gone this summer or the next.

can't believe that after nearly a decade of not building on having a generational one in a million striker come through the academy, constantly fucking up opportunities to build a successful team around him, that we're still in with a shot of convincing him to see out his precious remaining years with us... and we're STILL fucking it up! In EXACTLY the same ways we've been fucking it up for nearly a decade. Quite stunningly remarkable.

Only just seen this. Absolutely gutwrenching to see this and know we'll only bring in cheap bargain basement defenders at best and ensure the chances of Kane extending are zero.

We don’t need players of that quality, just better ones, there’s a lot of hype attached to the premiership, Newcastle have a bang average team and finished in the top four.

There is a world of difference between doing what Newcastle did winning the biggest trophies in football which is what Kane is after. Which was the point I was trying to make (obv not very well)

I get your point, but IF we sign some good defenders and IF we have a really strong season and challenge, Kane could stay. It’s not an unbelievable scenario.

I’m ok with this as it is in Spurs hands but H needs to agree a new contract with a written pre agreement on both sides that if certain criteria are met then both parties are obliged in law to sign the new contract.

If a bang average side could literally knock us into near oblivion or severe embarassment stakes and quivering wrecks in the first 21 minutes of a rather infamous game at the back end of last season, I'd hate to have seen what a pretty decent or excellent team would have done.... just saying....

That game was an absolute embarrassment. Can't remember when it was, maybe lates 90's or early 2000's when Walker was in goal and they beat us 7-1. But last year was unacceptable, we were a shambles.

you obviously don't fancy the story, but what it says- significant progress or some such- equates for us as finishing in the CL places (5th should be good enough) and getting to a final. That's exactly what the Geordies did.

I hope he stays, continues to bang em in- and strings Levy along next season- I cling to the belief he can twist Levy's arm into investing more and better in the squad during this defining year or so for the Club...

As many have said many times, a choice other than City or Real guarantees absolutely nothing
