England manager Roy Hodgson has assured Harry Kane that if he continues playing well for the England U21 squad, there is no reason why he cannot receive a call to the senior side.

I don't believe Roy!

How can Lambert get called up he's hardly played for L/pool since he's been there.

Because when he has played for England he has scored goals, just like Crouch did in the past, so Roy trusts him to continue that. Sometimes you just want a big experienced player in there who offers something else...just like Drogba for Chelsea, Mourinho trusts him to perform even at his current age and even if he goes for a spell without playing when Costa etc are fit.

I think Kane will get a call up, but he needs to score at the U21 level and continue to break into the team at Spurs.

Fair comment but would still query it with his lack of match time. Mind you who else is there???

Oh i query it alright... Lambert has done feck all this season so far for club, i am just trying to suggest a reason for it.

Think I would have dropped a LB and put another striker in the group and see who impressed in training and that player would have been Harry Kane. After all, one of the games is a friendly.

Roy Hodgson says he'll give Harry Kane a chance in the future... I'll sleep much better now.

Harry Kane remains eligible for The Republic of Ireland at senior level. Roy is throwing out vague assurances with that in mind.

I'd have not put Walc**** in and given Kane a go in training. Walcott has literally had 5 minutes of football in the last year what can he gain by bringing him into the squad. Especially when you consider some of the quality we have in that position.

I'm sorry, but these are relatively meaningless fixtures in the middle of a crowded Domestic and European season and I'd rather he didn't get involved. I'm happy for Ricky Lambert and Theo Walcott to be given a run out. It really doesn't matter.
As far as Kane is concerned, it's only the absence of credible alternatives that has led the press to be talking about him as a potential international. In the long term, he will definitely be better off as the main man for the England U21s next summer than being a convenient stop-gap to cover for Sturridge's absence against Scotland and Slovenia.

Our English players have always given less for the club when involved in the international scene. I accept its hard to do both but playing international football certainly seems to take more out of the English than the other nationalities. It's probably the exposure they get effects them mentally but either way I have come to dread our young players being selected. Id prefer they rested and continued to try to prove themselves every match for Tottenham.

Roy, please don't cap Kane unless you have a team capable of winning something? I don't want Kane to be worn out or injured playing for an useless England team.
