Spurs boss reluctant to let strike ace leave.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is reluctant to part with Robbie Keane after seeing him shine again in pre-season.

The Irishman bagged two goals on Saturday as Spurs came from behind to secure a 3-2 victory over Fiorentina.

Keane has been in fine form since returning to White Hart Lane this summer from a loan spell at Celtic.

He joined the Hoops last season after slipping down the pecking order at Tottenham, fuelling speculation that he could be moved on.

However, he has again demonstrated his knack of finding the back of the net over recent weeks and Redknapp admits he is loath to sell a player of Keane's quality.

    Outstanding

"I don't want to sell him. I don't know how you replace him," he told Sky Sports News.

"He's a good player, he scores goals, his enthusiasm for the game is infectious and second to none and he trains great.

"It's alright letting good players go, but it's trying to find something better, that's very difficult. He's a good player."

Redknapp was full of praise for his frontman after watching him inspire Spurs to an impressive victory in their latest friendly encounter.

He added: "We went 1-0 down early and they were difficult to break down. We managed to get it back to 1-1 and then went 2-1 down and then Robbie popped up with two great finishes.

"That's the type of run and finishing he has been showing all pre-season. He was outstanding."

Glad that he has shown his old form again, we have 4 very good forwards but we do need 1 world class. The problem is (as Harry say's) finding one.

Keane when his confidence is up can bang them in as well as anyone, it's when things go against him that he starts throwing his hands up and shouting at everyone. Then he couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo.

so he played 2 good trials

what happens when we are stuck with him and he returns to last years form ?

These quotes mean absolutely nothing... Harry's going on about trying to find someone better because thats exactly what hes been doing all summer and he knows he hasn't been able to find someone better who is available at the right price. He's always going to talk his players up as he knows nothing is gauranteed but I still think Keane will be sold as soon as he gets Bellamy in (if ever) sometime after we play City. I'd like to keep all of them at the moment.

Harry is just maintaining the price and keeping the player sweet incase we dont sell him.

He's already said the problem with Keane is he wants to be a regular in the first team.

Keane has been our best striker over the last 6 seasons by a counry mile we need to to keep him get him back on form.

If his mind is back in the right place then I would keep Keane in a heartbeat. I thought it better he move on, but perhaps he has now played for his 2 boyhood drema clubs and realised the grass is not always greener.

I believe he is the reason we are emerging from the stagnation of the nineties and welcome a return to form.

There is no doubt Keane still has the ability to make good runs into space and score goals when the pressure is not too high while his confidence is. The problems are: 1) he has shown this ability less and less last year (apart from the 4 goals v Burnley at home - hence my point above), 2) as most people noted, he believes he should always be in the team; 3) his attitude on the pitch (and off the pitch judging at least from the Dublin trip) has been more self-centred than team-orientated as a true captain's attitude should be. Everyone has seen regular arms waiving and shouting at team-mates when they either do not pass to him or have not done what he expected them to do, even though that team-mate was not actually at fault at all.

The most recent examples came in the last game (v Fiorentina). While Lennon, Pav and Giovani were quite ready to applaud their team-mates effort to find them with a nice pass, Captain Keane has not once acknowledged their effort and good passes. Even when he scored (well taken, btw) goals from great through balls, his priority was to milk the applause from the fans in his god-like posture rather than appreciate the team-mate's assist.
Instead, he had a go at Giovani when Keane's overhit chip landed close to the goalline where Gio had no chance to get to it without being off-side.

I hear all that talk from Harry about Keane's "enthusiasm and influence in the dressing room", but what I see with my own eyes on the pitch does not confirm those comments - and forgive me for preferring to believe the evidence in front of my eyes and mind rather than buy into some of the official spins.

Another typical response from those with tunnel vision and unable to debate more or less intelligently...For the record, I was very happy to see Keane seemingly settled and contributing so much at Spurs for a few seasons, until the end of season 2007-08. Then he allowed the Liverpool dream move to mess him up big time, when he perhaps already was past his peak in form.
