Harry Redknapp paid tribute to Luka Modric after his display against Stoke and insisted he gives the lads this simple instruction: "Get Luka on the ball."

The midfielder made things tick again in a must-win match against the Potters at the Lane on Tuesday night.

He helped create the second and third goals as we stormed into a 3-0 by the half-hour mark playing some of our best football of the season.

We ended up 3-1 winners and immediately jumped from 16th to 13th in the Premier League table.

"Luke showed that against a strong, physical team that not only is he a great footballer, he has a massive heart," beamed Harry. "Not only does he take a kick and a tackle, he wants the ball in tight areas and never shirks receiving the ball - no matter how tight people are to him.

"We've got to keep giving him the ball because he's always available.

You get him on the ball and he makes things happen. You have to get your best footballers on the ball, that is the name of the game. He's a fantastic footballer.

"When I first came here I'd only seen him at Wembley (for Croatia v England) and I thought he was an Eyal Berkovic.

"He was a fantastic player for me at West Ham, but he as a slight boy, not at all physical - great on the ball but when he wasn't on the ball it was difficult.

"This fella is different altogether - he challenges for headers, makes tackles, is hard to knock off the ball and is as brave as a lion. He has a real go.

"He's a terrific all-round player. When I didn't know him I wondered if he was strong enough for England but you look at him and not only does he want the ball, he's brave, works and tackles and does his share. He is a top, top player."

Rednapp doesn't recognise that Luka is 'lightweight'. What a fool.
  2. jurgen1966
your the fool - one of the only players that makes it worth buying a ticket
if you cannot see he is a natural footballer in every sense of the word you must be mad
maybe we should play "pass rond me in little trangles Huddlestine instead"
  3. jamieee
Settled down now and he is getting better with each game. Very good buy last summer !!
  4. tcyrus
Its easy to be top dog in your own house,so lets see how well he does away from home !

Was Zola Lightweight? Owen? scholes? A very strange post?
  6. nferno
scholes is even shorter than luka and look at what he has acheived in the prem...
  7. Coyboy
Satire guys. Apologies if that didn't come across.
  8. jamieee
I guessed you were only joking Coyboy, so I didn't bother to make a post about it !

people always missunderstand me when I use Satire too !

There is no doubting it, HE IS LIGHTWEIGHT! Its just a question of whether his obvious strong points can outweigh that weakness in the premier league. Can he control games consistantly? Will he always be injured 60/70% of the time? I have my doubts but he deserves a full season. I'd be nervous playing him in central midfield away from home against say - Bolton.

He was awesome against West Ham.

I thought the inverted commas would have done it. Oh well.

Are we still arguing over whether Luke Modric can make it in the Premiership? Home or away its exactly the same, he is atop class player at every level and is a tough performer.
Stoke gave him a bit of a kicking last time out, at least three tackles designed to hurt him but he carried on playing, wanting the ball in tight positions and seeing opportunities on the edge of the box to set other players up.
I couldn't believe it when he signed for us having only seen him at International level and seeing his class. If we can hold on to him he will be a force at Spurs for the forseeble future.
Good sense from Harry, for the second or third time this week, who at least knows a good player when he sees one.
Harry seems to have gone back to positive mode after the Stoke performance.

    Luka the Lionheart.

Sounds like Harry's getting his enthusiasm back after a couple weeks of turgid shit.

Or it could just be the media have stopped saying the same fucking quotes over and over again.

I think there were several positives from the Stoke game. Defoe has definitely improved his game during his Pompey spell. I wasnt a fan of him previously. But his hold up play was surprisingly good and his distribution and movement of good quality. It was easier for Modric and Pav and the midfield generally because the movement was so good from Lennon and him.

Modric and Zokora had very good games and Dawson was immense

On another note, Darren Bent seems to have stopped developing - his off the ball movement is terrible and puts the midfield under a lot of pressure.

By the way, I was watching Palacios giving his first interview on Spurs TV - seems like a very switched on lad.

Harry calls him 'Luke'. Lets hope there's no N'Zogbia type tantrums on the training ground.............

I knew you were playing some people in here that were always going on about how slight Modric is.

Agree with you entirely. Just imagine how much better Best, Maradona, Scholes, Keegan, Zola, Simonsen, Juninho, Owen (when young), Roberto Carlos, Messi, Cannavaro, Stiles, Gemmill, Mackay and Robinho would have been if they were all 6 ft 5 in and 19 stone.
