Spurs boss feels January signing was just what team needed.

Harry Redknapp is confident Wilson Palacios is only going to improve for Tottenham Hotspur next season.

Palacios has been quick to make an impact at White Hart Lane after joining Spurs from Wigan Athletic in the January transfer window.

The Honduran seamlessly slotted into the centre of midfield and Redknapp believes the 24-year-old was just what his team required.

"Wilson is a terrific young player, a player we needed and I think he will only get better," Redknapp told the latest edition of Hotspur magazine.

Redknapp is looking to add to his squad before the start of the new season and outlined his approach to identifying potential signings.

He added: "You look at absolutely everything. You get an eye for a player, you like him and you get a feel for him when you watch him.

"You have to watch players carefully and be as sure as you can be as to what you are getting."

Looking further afield at Real Madrid's transfer dealings this summer, Redknapp admits the world record deals for Kaka, and then Cristiano Ronaldo, are 'amazing.

"They are amazing deals," he continued. "It's a lot of money, obviously, but it's clear that Real Madrid are going for it.

"Kaka's a fantastic player, but Ronaldo is the signing. He's the player they've been chasing."

If this guy Palacios doesn't improve - I don't care.

He is the biz.. Just make sure we keep him.

Making sure we keep him and our other top players is the main thing for me this window. Wilson is a gem and hopefully we wont contemplate selling him - thankfully there's been little or no speculation surrounding him.

I don't want to come out of a 3rd summer window in a row worse off than went we went into it. To that end, I hope all the recent speculation and the rest that's to come is just bull. I hope when Harry said he just needed 2 or 3 quality players he meant it. Talk of shedding 8 or 9 players, including Hudd, Bale, Pav and others would be counter-productive. We need to get involved in team building and squad building. Wholesale changes hasn't worked for us - this should be the 1st summer of many where we make only one or two big money additions per year.

Along with Luka Modric, I think Wilson Palacios is one of our best signings in recent years. He brings that grit, drive and solid-ness to the midfield - something we've been lacking since Davids left. It's clear HR thinks a lot of him and I dont see him going anywhere for a good couple of years at least.

i agree with all your comments here...he and modric are key.. i also believe we need to hold onto our players..perhaps with one striker departing, but huddlestone needs to be held onto as palacios is the type of player who sorts out the nitty gritty allowing modric and hudd to roam free and exrpress themselves..

On top of that Palacios seems the be true proffesional...

If we sell Jenas, what do you think of :

Modric Hudd Palacios Lennon as our starting formation. Hudd would have he time to up his game and the luxury of having a truly defensive player along side him. He could then become the attacking CM that he should be. He is no DM and we all know it. And it eliminates the problem of hight in the team.

The jenas - palacios partnership has been successful & very effective in sheilding the back four sebo-sek, so why do we need to upset the flow just to fit huddy in? i have never been a fan of jenas, but him & palacios compliment each other well hunting down the opposition.

totally agree, and thats why i want Harry to name Wilson as captain next season !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because - simply by virtue of the player he is - Sgt Wilson will miss 1 in 5 through suspension. Occupational hazard of the enforcer. there needs to be an understudy

I love him - best signing in years. Totally un-tottenham style signing but the grit in the oyster puts in selfless hard yards to allow others to exploit space he creates by sucking in players and winning possession unexpectedly.

I hope Palacios does improve his game. We shouldn't let the fact that he's the kind of midfielder we have needed for years distract us from the fact that he has room to develop. He tackles hard and breaks up play brilliantly, but often does not win the ball. He has a good, hard long shot, but he has yet to get it on target. His passing ranges from classy to slipshod. His positional sense is usually good, but one can sometimes see him having to rush himself to make up for having taken up the wrong position. And there have been a few games where he has drifted out of play for 15-20 minutes at a time, which he cannot afford to do, given his assigned role.

He's still a relatively young player. He looks like he has the potential to become a player in the style and of the quality of Patrick Vieira. But he's not there yet.

I think both the Palacios-Jenas and Palacios-Huddlestone pairings are potentially excellent. It depends on what is needed. Playing against a 5 man midfield, I'd feel more comfortable with Jenas in there, harrying and taking up space, at least until Huddlestone starts listening to Harry and getting some more aggression into his game. Against a 4 man midfield, especially where the opposing defence is playing a high line, I'd always prefer Huddlestone, who has more vision to make things happen.

All the more reason to be pleased with his signing. In a couple of years I think he could be one of the best midfielders in the country. At least.

    A fair analysis.

Palacio's is a player very much in the mould of the great Dave McKay and if 'Arry is able to improve his positioning sense, shooting and overall passing then we'll have a gem of a player.
Modric and Palacios are, in my mind, the two players that 'Arry is trying to build our team around and I look forward to some interesting transfers to complement them.

    QUE VIVA LOS SPURS

Although Modric is supposed to be our attacking central midfielder, if we (finally) sign a left winger. I know who I would prefer to see playing alongside Palacios. Its not Huddlestone.
  15. Boony
Do you think he`s verbal enough ? Id like to see Woody, I cant beleive he`s not been considered for England

The only thing that concerns me about Palacious is the number of cards he receives....however, better positioning and learning when to tackle and when not to will help.
  17. strader
You know when there is no spurs news when the same story which is few months old comes out again.
  18. hodspurs
if we can keep jj,him and palacios will get better together.they played really well with each other last season and can only get better...
  19. sebo_sek
Well that goes without saying, but it;s rumoured that Redknapp wants to play Modric in the hole so that still leaves a vacant spot in CM. And I did reiterate that this would be my choice IF IF IF Jenas was sold.
