Harry Redknapp believes Giovani Dos Santos still has a future at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Mexico international has struggled to settle in England after signing from Barcelona. Following loan spells at Ipswich Town and Galatasary, his career appeared to be away from White Hart Lane.

Redknapp felt the lure of the nightlife has distracted the 21-year-old from matters on the pitch. But after a promising World Cup, the Tottenham manager insists Dos Santos is still in his plans.

“If he could pass a nightclub as well as he can pass a ball he would be alright.” Redknapp said on Talksport.

“His Mum and Dad came over to see me last year and he apologised because they realised he wasn’t dedicated.

“He’s got bags of ability and fantastic skill. Suddenly, he was late on Monday mornings - upset stomach - he’d probably been in Barcelona partying somewhere.

“He’s had a great World Cup. If he knuckles down this year he could be a top player.

“He’s a nice kid and I hope he keeps his head down and gets on with the job.”

I wish he wouldn't make derogatory remarks about players which may or may not have foundation. It's not the first time he's done it either. Even if they are true.

Put yourself in 'Arry's shoes for a moment Freddie, he sees a players with bags of talent pissing it away on B.S instead of knuckling down, training well and doing his best to become part of Spurs first team squad.............how frustrating can that be for any manager.
'Arry's comments are part of his character and you either accept them or not but as far as I'm concerned if they help make Gio into the player we'd all like to see in a Spurs shirt, so be it.

Why is it without foundation? It's certainly undisputable that he's been seen hammered outside clubs on a number of occasions, and it's also indisputable that he's been overweight and short of form for pretty much his entire two years at Tottenham. If he pulled his head out of his arse he'd be a huge prospect, at the moment he's just a lower-profile Robinho.

have no problem with Redknapp justifying why GDS hasn't progressed at Spurs. Seems he's giving him an opportunity to make ammends so we can ask no more. Up to the player now

    Quality :)

Hardly a ringing endorsement of his desire to keep him. Just saying the right things for the journos. Whenever Redknapp's compliments come with if's but's and maybe's you know he isn't really convinced himself. Would be nice to keep the guy though. I thought GDS was quality when he first arrived and his WC performances have only endorsed that view.

some good quotes in there from Harry

Old news, Harry said this when Gio was about to play for us again but got injured in the first 15 mins.

Can't see Gio staying, he's a misfit. He isn't cut out to put the effort in week in week out and seems happy to waste his talent.

A story I'd certainly like to believe.
Has the authentic Harry touch and Gio has talent to waste which makes him worth the effort.
Think we will cash in on him while his World Cup performances are still fresh in the memory.
Rather keep a potential top player for Harry to nurture than buy in such as Bellamy who will keep Harry more than occupied.

In before Viola calls Harry a liar.

There's your explanation SV and let's face it, these stories have been common place during his time with us. Let's hope he grows up a bit.

Rednapp is spot on. Has to be worth one last chance with this guy and if we opt for a lone striker more often then he should get more chances to play off him. Definitely ahesd of Keane for me.
The main problem is that we haven't got a lone striker of anything like the right quality.

I'd love Gio to knuckle down, put in the effort and come out the otherside for us a World Class talent. It's possible, but it's entirely in the boy's own hands if he wants it, it's potentially there for him.

Plus it could save us £70,000 a week (or whatever we'd offer him) on Joe Cole's wages. We wouldn't need to sign another attacking midfielder.

I said it after the England-Mexico friendly and maybe the first World Cup group stage - if we do look to change formation Gio would be ideal for one of the attacking roles. His movement can make him hard to pick up, potentially dragging defenders into areas of the pitch they don't want to be/out of position.

He's had a tough time with us, doesn't fit into the 4-4-2 formation, acclimitasing to a new culture/country, and clearly he wasn't quite mature enough to do with it, partying, etc. He needs to put that behind him and get on with the job at hand: making a name for himself for the right reasons and doing his bit to lead the Mighty Spurs to glory!

It's all there for him. Does he want it enough?
