HARRY REDKNAPP insists Tottenham can save their necks by walloping Young Boys in Berne tonight.

Spurs have up to £20million in Champions League cash at stake in their play-off against the Swiss.

But Redknapp quipped: "We must get through otherwise listening to everybody else we'll end up hanging ourselves!"

Spurs are favourites but boss Redknapp is keen to take the heat off his side.

He said: "Nobody expected us to get here in the first place. We suddenly went from where we were to finishing fourth in the Premier League.

"People's expectations get very high but I don't think about not qualifying. It'll be difficult but I've got great belief in the team. All you can do is your best, and if we play at our best we've got a great chance."

Spurs will go for first-leg goals on the Boys' plastic pitch.

Redknapp said: "We can't sit back. We have attacking players and we can score here. We created loads of chances against Manchester City but just couldn't get the break. I'm hoping we do against Berne."

Redknapp also ruled out a change in style for tonight's clash. He added: "Can you play the same in Champions League? That depends.

"Coming here we'll be positive. At Barcelona we'd have to change."

    "... walloping Young Boys ..."

    Eek

At Barcelona we'd have to change.
I hope we get that experience. I seriously do hope we get to play against some world class opposition.
Barca, Real Madrid, Inter - if we get one of those in our group I'd be chuffed to bits.

    Save our necks?
From what? Did we get a battering I failed to notice?

    yep

From having to hang ourselves if we lose.

Did you only read the first line before posting?

I know it's the Sun, but isn't "saving our necks" is a tad over the top. It's not like DL will terminate anyone's contract if we fail. Hence my bewilderment at the quote.

I think Harry is being sarcastic fellah's..

"We must get through otherwise listening to everybody else we'll end up hanging ourselves!"

I think we could be a surprise package this year as the boys look so excited not under pressure.

I could be wrong but I thought I read they don't play the official champions league music until the proper group stage?

Can anyone shed any light on this, one way or another!

So hope it is not true, nearly as exciting as the game itself in my eyes:)
  13. spursbhoy67
Chris, you are correct. The official CL music is not played until the group stage.

That's what I heard. No cl music till next round.

If we make it through this qualifying game we'd be guarented one of Real, Barca, Inter, AC or Bayern Munich as Chelsea, Utd and Arsenal would be the other 3 seeded teams.

Real or Barca would be my 1 and 2

    :D
  16. Kendall
We could potentially get both real and Inter!

Nope. Real are in pot 2. Sevilla (if they qualify) will be in pot 1. If they don't qualify then it'll be Lyon.
