Harry Redknapp had words of praise for Luka Modric and David Bentley after Sunday's draw against Portsmouth.

Luka impressed again and set up Jermain Defoe's equaliser in arguably his toughest test to date in central midfield while David provided an extra spark off the bench as we pushed for the winner, forcing a fine save from David James and setting up a golden chance for Darren Bent that unfortunately ended up wide.

"Luka was fantastic, unbelievable," said Harry. "He showed character, rode tackles, he was brave as a lion.

"We all look at him and say 'can he play in midfield?' but he showed he could do the lot. When we needed him he carried the game to them.

"David Bentley came off the bench and did everything I asked of him.

"I spoke to him last week, told him what I expect of him, told him what makes him a player and he went out and did it.

"That was the David Bentley I knew at Blackburn, the David Bentley I knew as a kid at Arsenal and Norwich on loan. The penny's dropped with him and I think we'll see a different David Bentley from now on.

"Woodgate and Dawson were fantastic at the back as well."

I knew Bentley was going to try to score from that free kick, and was glad when he did. Shame so many fans groaned mid flight.

He's not my cuppa tea, but if he continues as he left off yesterday then I have no problem with him in our team.

He didn't need to say Lennon was great, there haven't been doubts over Lennon's ability on the right, while there have over Luka's in the middle and Bentleys anywhere at all

I thought Luka gave the ball away quite a lot and was brushed of the ball too easily.... but great play in parts and great set up for Defoe!

Rather than Ekotto who has been very good this season?

Nice to hear praise for luca who thoroughly deserved it especially having to play alongside the hopeless Zokora who gives him (or any other CM player he's partnered with) very little help

Altho Bents miss was shocking, I cant really believe the way Redknapp pretty much abused him in his interview.

Its hardly gonna boost his confidence!

I am afraid defensively, his prime reason for being in the team, your right Zokora was awful on Sunday.

who gives a??. bent missed a sitter and deserves all he gets. there is only one thing he is "good" at and he couldnt even do that. his first touch is woeful and i would not miss him if we could manage to find an adequate replacement..

"i would not miss him if we manage to find an adequate replacement" You're not exactly going out on a limb are you 'sak11'?

Perhaps you haven't noticed but Bent is our top scorer - despite being in and out of the side after being injured. He is a good finisher who is, understandably, playing without confidence, and it hardly helps when your manager criticises you publicly (which, to be fair was mild and more a throwaway remark) and several thousand bell-ends who are supposed to be on your side start to boo you.

Bent is a good goal scorer who will, used in the right way, score for any club. Sadly the attitude of an increasing number of retards (sorry, I mean 'fans') means that he might not get the chance for us.

It's nice to see our manager praising his players; it's the way it should be. Criticise collectively, not individually, and praise when it's due.

    This is wierd though:

Can he play in midfield? Only for his entire career. Just because he's a ceative player doesn't mean he has to play off the front man with four behind him.

Ledley excepted, he's easily our best player; just build the team around him.
