It's a short collection of very well-considered observations about Winks' style. Read before being rude.

In a long collection of seeing Ardiles from his debut up to his last appearance, i can honestly say that Winks will never come close to resembling Ardiles on the pitch. It's a futile argument to suggest otherwise for anyone who witnessed Ardiles in his prime.

I don't doubt the talent that Winks has, but he does not resemble (to me anyway) the talented, skillful World Cup winner that was (aside from Hoddle) the best attacking midfielder to wear the Spurs shirt.

Winks has a massive future. His composure, first touch and passing have been a stand out. A bit more strength would help him.

See him being Dembele's successor.

Hoping Edwards makes it in the next couple of years.

It would be fairer to compare Winks to a 21 year old Ardiles rather than his entire career. Ossie wasn't pulling up trees at that age but was on the International radar, in a very similar way that Winks is.

There's a bit of Ossie there, maybe a bit of Modric too. His problem is physical presence, if he was up against Dembele and Wanyama he'd come off second best. Great talent, maybe Poch can find a way to get the best out of him.

Modric and Ossie would have come off second best physically against Wanyama and Dembele. Not many CMs wouldn't. In a footballing sense though, they'd win hands down. It's about a balance of physicality and skill.

So Winks has started the game, and he's slotted into the middle like a gem.
