According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Moreno has ditched his previous representative to sign up with Raiola, who counts Liverpool’s Mario Balotelli among his clients and has links with a number of top Premier League and European clubs.

The Gunners are favourites to land Moreno, and Sport claim Arsene Wenger has had scouts at some of Espanyol’s recent games, including the 2-0 and 1-0 victories over Valencia and Celta Vigo in which the 26-year-old helped keep clean sheets.

The Gunners are reportedly ready to offer £6million for Moreno, who has recently returned to full fitness after breaking his leg during Mexico’s World Cup campaign, and Raiola is set to meet Espanyol officials to discuss his future this week.

Spurs’ interest appears to have cooled, but Moreno is well known to Pochettino having worked with the Argentinian during his time in charge at the Spanish club.

Espanyol would be willing to listen to “interesting” offers for Moreno, but the Gunners could face competition from several Bundesliga clubs for his signature.

I don't get why we wouldn't still be talking to him if we think there's a legitimate chance of seeing off Kaboul or Chiriches. The single only reason I can think of is if we've started looking at other targets.

Would like to see us continue with Moreno though, as I think a previous understanding of Poch's system would be very beneficial.

Well, I assumed Wimmer would be coming as the understudy to Vertonghen as the LCB, however, rumours persist that Vertonghen may also be off. So if Moreno is seen as the senior LCB option, works for me. Known quantity to Pochettino, available for a reasonable fee. What's not to like.
6m each rumoured for Wimmer and Moreno. Vertonghen's sale alone would likely cover both of those.
Would mean larger volume of changes than I'd like, however it would appear, if the media reports are correct, that we are looking to get all out business done early, meaning the said would largely be in place for all of preseason.

Where is Vertonghen supposed to be off to? Levy won't sell him to an English rival, he's nowhere near good enough for Madrid, Munich, or PSG, Barca still have a transfer ban, and I think the top Italian clubs would balk at the fee we would demand. I don't see him going anywhere at the moment.

Could see him being a Hummels replacement.

Would he move to Dortmund without Champions League? Would they really go for an expensive, high-wage, out-of-form CB instead of buying young talent cheap, the model that brought them so much success? I don't see it.

Valid point, but after selling Hummels they'd certainly have the money, and they would want the immediate quality to push back for CL.

And actually, Wolfsburg may be an even more likely destination. They look destined for CL, have plenty of money, may want to upgrade on the aging Naldo and Schafer, and do love Belgians there.

Him being "nowhere near good enough" is probably why we would sell to English rival, for a hefty fee that is.

Arsenal and Tottenham will 'fight' for Hector Moreno

English teams seek to strengthen their defensive zone, so this summer seek to make the best deal by Espanyol

Espanyol defender Hector Moreno could leave Espanyol, since both Arsenal and Tottenham seek to strengthen their defensive zone so they are prepared to offer 7 million euros, as announced by the British newspaper Metro.
However, in Italy claim that English teams have competition since Juventus also want the services of the Mexican player gradually returning to form after recovering from a fracture during the match against the Netherlands in the World Cup Brazil 2014.
For its part, the parrot picture is obliged to negotiate the transfer of Moreno next summer, as his contract expires in 2016, and if not then switches teams, later this year can negotiate as a free agent.

In 18 league games he missed, the current average position of teams they played in the La Liga table is 11.235. They conceded an average of 1.611 goals per game and kept 4 clean sheets in 18 La Liga games.

In the 14 games he has started*, the current average position of teams they played in the La Liga table is 10.929. They have conceded an average of 0.786* goals per game and kept 8 clean sheets in 14 La Liga games.

* denotes one game at Sevilla, currently in 5th position in La Liga, in which Moreno went off in the 34' when the game was tied 1-1. The game ended 3-2 FT.

Pretty impressive if you ask me. As spurs9 said, could be some other factors at play, but I would welcome him.
