At Ajax he was voted as the club's brightest emerging talent in 2003-04. As a result he made his appearance in Ajax' first team squad for the 2004-05 season, making his debut against Roda JC on February 26, 2005 in a 1-2 away win. Just weeks after his Eredivisie debut he was called up to the national team, making his debut against Romania in March 2005.

As of the 2005-06 season he became a first team regular and he won his first career trophies, starting with the 2005 Johan Cruijff-schaal and the 2006 KNVB Cup.

He was called up for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and featured in one match against Argentina. Both the Johan Cruijff-schaal and the KNVB Cup were successfully defended in the 2006-07 season.

Despite already having amassed 12 senior caps, in 2007 he took part in the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship in the Netherlands, and also scored the competition's first goal when Jong Oranje beat Israel 1-0. He also played in their second match against Portugal (2-1 win) to secure a semi final spot and to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. In the semi finals against England the score was 1-1 after 120 minutes, in the following penalty shoothout with 32 kicks taken, the Dutch reached their second straight final winning the shootout 13-12. The Dutch went on to retain their 2006 title by beating Serbia 4-1 in the final. After the tournament he was named in the 'UEFA Team of the tournament'.

The Johan Cruijff-schaal was won for the third consecutive time at the start of the 2007-08 season.

Guys I don't think it's us that's been linked with Maduro. The ITK is that Ajax only want to sell one of Maduro and Emanuelson but they presumably have bids for both. But the bid for Maduro is from a different club. So unless someone can prove otherwise I'll close this in a minute.

I can prove otherwise. Or rather i think i can. Just let me read that original post again, because i think it's you who might have made a mistake. Could be me too though.

The contract of Maduro expires this summer at Ajax. The amsterdammers want extend the contract of the middenvelder gladly, but provisionally refuse the person whose birthday it is player its put signature. Maduro fence, as it happens, with English interest, which interest would come of Tottenham. The middenvelder can this summer transfervrij to London, but will nevertheless prepare the Spurs an offer for to obtain this winter the player already to United Kingdom. More than probably Ajax want cooperate in a transfer, differently the amsterdammers must let for free leave their middenvelder this summer. Toch Ajax hope that Maduro will discuss still a contract lengthening.

Over on FTL the general consensus is that we're in for Emanuelson not Maduro I think but I'll leave it open for now anyway.

Incidentally I'm fairly certain we've been linked with Maduro before which may be where the confusion is arising.

The Ajax people I speak to do not think this kid is all that good. A falling star to say the least

Then they're stupid. His passing and reading of the game is excellent. Quick too. He's got all the attributes to be a success.

The Ajax crowd are very spoiled, nowadays they think nobody is good enough. Look at what most have said about Ibrahimovich, Chivu, Maxwell, VDV, Sneijder, Babel etc. in the past when they left. It's the same right now with Maduro, Huntelaar and Emanuelson.

If they're not called Van Basten, Rijkaard, Seedorf or Bergkamp, they're not good enough.

Sent off after 10 minutes last night should fit right in with Keane, Huddlestone and Zokora!

maduro is about to leave ajax.

ajax have withdrawn their extension offer because he wanted more time to think about it than the 2 months that ajax have given him to sign the contract.

ajax are now open for offers since maduro will be on a bosman this summer.

you can get him for cheap now. if you're still interested that is.

Checked the lists Dan and can't find anything 'official'. But I did have this:

Wilde on COYS said:
Hedwiges Maduro?, If Carrick goes... Not a source I can name but allegedly we are looking at this kid, who is young and dutch, as a possible replacement should we end up selling Carrick.

Apparantly we are hoping for a fee of around 3-4 million whereas Ajax may hold out for 6-7 million (with Davids also going the other way). (June 14 2006)

So this dates back to the last World Cup, even before we'd sold Carrick. History shows we went for Zokora instead.
