Everton are ready to make a shock move for 37-year-old Henrik Larsson to solve their striker crisis.
The Sweden international is currently back at his home town club Helsingborg, after a glorious career at Celtic and Barcelona - plus a brief loan spell at Manchester United.
Everton are in desperate need of forward cover after Yakubu was ruled out for the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon sustained during Sunday's win at Spurs.
Fellow striker Louis Saha is also out for weeks after being carried off in that game with a hamstring injury. And just to make matters worse, young forward James Vaughan is out for three months after a knee operation.
It leaves manager David Moyes with just one fit front-runner at the club in rookie Victor Anichebe - and he knows that he must find cover swiftly or risk Everton's season fading.

Larsson fits the bill perfectly. He has just led Helsingborg to a place in next season's UEFA Cup after a successful domestic Swedish season which finished on November 9.
That means Larsson now has three months clear until the season starts again in March, and Everton are eyeing the prospect of taking the experienced star on loan for that period.
Larsson helped steer United towards a Premier League triumph and Champions League semifinal slot in 2007 during a similar successful three month loan period.
Moyes is looking at other options - including Germany hitman Lukas Podolski, but it seems he is destined for Cologne.
And another target, Brazilian Wagner Love, has been priced out of reach of the Merseyside club.

Everton brought this on themselves, by having Vaughan and Saha as backups. Both good players but extremely injury prone. Saying that Larsson would be an ok move for them. He wont set the world alight now, but he'd do a job.
