High-profile ex Spurs knowledge about Club

I've been surprised a couple of times lately by how little, former Spurs 'legends' know about the Club.

Last summer, Ray Clemence was a Sky pundit at the Emirates Cup, held a week or so after the Wembley Cup in which Spurs played. The host of the show - perhaps mischievously - said to Clemence how Tottenham would like to put on tournaments like those if they only had the stadium for it. It seemed like a good time for Clemence to tell the viewers that a new stadium was planned, and that indeed, such a tournament might in future take place there. Instead, he said that yes, Tottenham were rotating their pitch in a year or two but it would still be mayhem to get to because of transport difficulties. He seemed totally unaware of plans for a new stadium.

Today, on Goals on Sunday, Terry Venables, when asked about yesterday's game, said that a number of Tottenham players were changed around, "I don't know why". There was no mention of the players out injured, and he presumably doesn't know that we have an injury problem.

I only say all this because it would seem sensible for the Club to realise that former Spurs players or staff (George Graham was also on today's show) will, from time to time, be called on to act as pundits, and be asked to talk about Spurs - and should therefore keep them informed (via news-letter? the occasional drink?) as to what is going on at the club so that they can at least present an accurate picture when called upon.

Or maybe I just shouldn't let it wind me up.

I think it says more about those former club employees than about Spurs as a club. All the information that we know about and they don't seem to is readily available to the public. Daniel Levy has more important things to worry about than keeping George Graham and Gerry Francis up to date on our plans for the future and our injury list.

I think they may well be more aware than they are letting on, but just don't care enough to ramble on about Spurs that much, they probably wouldn't be asked back by the TV company if they did.

The Venables thing is just poor punditry.

I share your frustration. But we don't need to 'keep them informed', someone just needs to tell them about this smashing site I found called 'Google'.

Clemance is a Liverpool Fan. Graham and Venables hardly left the club on good terms, and hence their lack of interest in whats happening at the club.

I agree. Though sometimes they're ok, quite a few have no idea. Graham Roberts was on talksport earlier and said Harry got it wrong and should've played his strongest team. I'm pretty sure he didn't realise we have injuries. Danny Kelly was also, surprisingly, off the mark too. He also said Harry just wants the cup hence the team selection etc. I'd put my mortgage on the fact that the manager and players would rather be playing CL next season.

That was the problem in the first place...El Tel knows exactly what steamers tell him, sitting on the back table of Scribes Vest:eek:mg:
