he is 28 and he's only just been selected or his country. What does that tell you about what he's been doing for the last 10 years?

Maybe we need to give our midfielders a chance...

when you have/had the likes of davids (ajax, juventus, ac milan, inter, barca), seedorf (ajax, inter, real madrid, milan), van bommel (psv, barca, bayern), van der vaart (ajax, hsv, juve), sneijder (ajax, barca), affelay (psv), maduro (ajax, valencia), zenden (psv, barca, chelsea, liverpool, marseille), heitinga (ajax, atletico madrid), van bronckhorst (feyenoord, arsenal, barca) et al walking around..

former dutch nt coaches opted for big stars playing abroad and neglected talented players playing in our mickey mouse league.

san marco does not.

But who has gone in for him? why hasn't his name been bandied around if he was that good?

My point wasn't to suggest he was shit, it was merely to suggest that midfielders don't peak untill after the age of 25

he played at twente, players often get overlooked when they play for lesser teams, especially in holland.

his first nt game was last year in june against south korea.

Also, he's only been playing as a DM for the last season or so. From what I've read, prior to that he was a pretty average AM. It seems he's only discovered his best position late in his career.
