70 posts in, you have to realise that we8 is a constant troll on here and other sites.

He also is a 'claimed ITK' Nedley yet he sits at home during the game posting clap. Eek

Unless im missing something didn't he just ask ' did he chuck his shirt into the crowd and did we chant his name?'.

Surely it didn't deserve your response. End.

Didn't look very interested today but then again he wasn't given any sort of service. Today highlighted the difference between the top four and the rest.

Liverpool have three players I would put in the "world class" bracket, we have one and that's Berba.

If we want to break the top four, we have to keep him and get some more in!

True, but still no excuse for a forward not to be continually on the move making defenders work. If you refuse to graft defensively then a forward must at least strech defences with runs off the ball, work to pull defenders out of position and create space for runners. If the centre of the park if too crowded, work the channels and always make sure you are available as an option all the time.

When you aren't getting good service you have to put even more work in off the ball. You can still drag defenders out of position with diversionary runs. Run down the dead-end balls, work the channels and fight for anything upfield. Basically it becomes even more important to do the donkey work side of a centre-forward's job when your side are struggling to string anything together - insteasd he basically gives up when things don't go his way.

Look at the workrate of Davies at Bolton - doesn't score a load, has 10% of Berba's ability but makes a huge contribution to the side. If Berba allied his undoubted ability with that kind of commitment he'd be the best player in the Prem by a country mile. Instead he thinks his talent excuses him from having to really graft - knowing he'll get enough goals to keep the big clubs' attention with his 'energy efficient' performances. A move to Man U would be a real wake up call - Fergie would expect a bit more than the bare minimum me thinks!

For Berba - read Kanute. I remember this board's very same comments when Kanute was donning the shirt. They suit European football more than the pace of the Premiership.

But surely the pace of the Prem is due to the hugely competitive nature of the English footballing mentality. In serie A you hardly ever see a full blooded tackle - neither team is interested in getting into an open, full blooded, full pace, pitched battle - both sides are happy to make the contest all about tactics and technique rather than adding the dimention of a full-on physical tryst, hence the pace of the game slows and the technical players are able to showcase their full repetoire in a three quarter pace game. In the UK we would rather spoil play and out-fight a side rather than give them a chance to play a passing game at a pace they are comfortable with - even if it means winning ugly!

In the UK, historically, we have preferred to work on fitness and team spirit - we try try to a instill bloody minded, competitive work ethic in our youngsters - on the continent, they focus far more on technique and tactics - so you frequently come accross the Berba/Kanoute type players - who have it all, tequnique wise, but just don't have the drive and motivation to work thier socks off in a physical battle, week in week out, come rain or shine! These fair-weather fancy dans hide away in Italy and Spain playing at a lower level than the prem, simply to protect their overblown reputations and not get found out when the game reaches a genuinely competitive tempo.

What about Ronaldo then you fucking plank?

All you idiots may laugh at Ronaldo and hate him but the reason why he is so good is because he is practicing ALL THE TIME. He works twice as hard as most other players and that is why he is so good. Only a fucking idiot would claim European players to have 'less drive' than those from the UK.

If we install a 'competitive work ethic' into our youngsters then why do half of them act like complete fucking idiots and would rather go out on a piss up than go training? You only have to look at our youth team to see this. Bale is one of the few I can see who shows the 'competitive work ethic'.

I think the fact that he said "you frequently come accross the Berba/Kanoute type players " kinda means that you do now and then come across players who beat the rule and are great in this league in the physical and technical aspects e.g Ronaldo and Torres.

But for every Ronaldo and Torres theres a Morrientes, Shevshenko, Pizzarro.

No, you have entirly got the wrong end of the stick there, not all continental players lack drive or a competitive edge - not even close! Ronaldo is a prime example of a continental tequnique/tactics biased footballing education and attention to diet allied to the ferguson ethos of hard graft.

But there are examples of players like Bianchi who ran a mile when exposed to the pace of the prem - who would rather have an easier life facing defenders like Maldini in their late thirties!

I'm glad you agree "that the reason why he [Ronaldo] is so good is because he works twice as hard as most other players" - thats excatly the point I'm making - Berba tries half as hard as most players - if he put in a Ronaldo esque level of work in today I wouldn't have a problem!

How on earth you got the impression I was saying all continental players are lazy or unprofessional is beyond me. You surely can't question the fact some star name players (from Italy espescially - eg. Veron) struggled to adjust to the physicality of the English game. You also cannot discount the possiblity, that some do not move to the Prem for fear of trashing thier reputation. Or maybe you do?

BTW - try to refrain from swearing on here - kids read this forum. It is also not good form to go around calling people "f**cking planks" when they are not being offenesive or objectionalbe, but are simply offering an opinion.

We didn't stay after the final whistle.....couldn't be arsed (please dont start on me...pregnant and wanted to get ahead of the crowd!). Well if Berbatov genuinely wants to go, there's the door mate, but you haven't been painting a very good picture of yourself for a while, so good luck! I don't want us to become desperate ie Arsenal fans about Henry! No player is ever bigger than the team or club!
