I was just wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to how we go about scouting, analysing and recruiting currently. We had Rob McKensie, Paul Mitchell and Ian Broomfield all departing (at various times), followed by the appointment of Steve Hitchin I believe as head of recruitment or scouting ? And reports were that he became part of the "committee" which included Pochettino, Levy and John McDermott.

Poch himself has previously stated that he gets the final say over transfers, but we have recently read reports that Poch has effectively blocked the appointment of a new "sporting director" or "head of recruitment" and wants even more control over the comings and goings.

Can anyone confirm what the current set up is? Scouting, Analytics, recruitment etc ? And I include any of our more informed posters, @Trix @Hercules @Grey Fox etc. Not asking for any ITK or anything sensitive, just if you guys have an idea of the general set up and who's doing what (to whom) in terms of those remits etc.

Wondered this myself for a while now. We've had a pretty mixed bag when it comes to our transfer dealings under Poch but I'm really not sure who is to blame and/or praise for the successes and failures. We still don't even really know what Mitchell did or why he departed. Some people say he was unhappy at not having enough say in who we signed, others say he was responsible for failings and Levy wasn't happy with him. It's all a bit of a mystery as to who is exactly involved in our transfer strategy and who does what.

Honestly I'm not entirely sure why the club seem to be so secretive about it. I don't really see how it being public knowledge what jobs people do and what the hierarchy is has any detrimental affect on the club so why all the secrecy?

Here’s how it was back in the day. Tim and Les book a nice 5* all inclusive on Levy’s card somewhere sunny. On match day they sink a few pints of foreign muck (Its no
John Smiths) the local square before getting a cab to the stadium to scout a player. At the stadium, Tim and Les make the most of the in game hospitality, quaffing champagne and the expansive crab and Brie filo canapés. At 20 minutes in they down their last pint of moêt and head out to their seats to catch the game. Said player they’ve come to scout has a decent tackle and a bit of flair about him. Having seen enough on 45 they decide that Carlos Kickaball isn’t better than Chadli and Eriksen in the holding role and they go back to hospitality. That evening they hit the local strip, abuse a few locals and finish up in the titty bar stuffing our hard earned season ticket money down the brassiere of Mercedes. The next day they report bleary eyes to Redknapp that the player search had been fruitless and that Tim’s agent mate has a better one from Swindon we can sign.

This would be interesting to know more about this. They'll really have to deliver this summer.

I too would be very interested to know this as it seems our transfer policy after Mitchell left has been abysmal.

Still waiting for knowledge on who scouted Sissoko, aurier, Janssen and N'Koudou.

All though our current players have improved, our selection comitee has been more questionable than ever.

Well let's see ...

Last season it was buying PSG outcasts. Bridged with a long history of signing players with names starting with N, we could be looking at PSG players Nkunku or N'Soki. Pastore is also an option.
The season before, we signed players that had played well against us and/or played well in an international championship. This might point to signing Khedira, who played reasonably well against us in the CL.
The season before that, the strategy was to replace players we didn't really want to keep, with younger players we weren't really sure if we should sign. For instance Kaboul out, Wimmer in. That might point to selling Alderweireld now, and bringing in a CB who'll play a few matches when Vertonghen is out.
The season before that, we did the same thing but on a lower budget. So we sold Assou-Ekotto and bought Ben Davies. Executives are still feeling blessed that that transfer actually worked out even if it took all these years. (Davies has already been with the club for 4 years, but he was practically free).
The season before that, we sold Elvis and bought The Beatles Tribute Band. Some of which went on to become Frank Sinatra reincarnated, a sleek, relaxed, elegant start in his own right. That might point to trying to bring Elvis back, since he after all is still alive.

@Bus-Conductor

Looks like Ally Gold read your thread and answered your question.

That the Gang of Four includes Levy, Poch and our Chief Scout, Steve Hitchen, is not a surprise.

I'm pleased the Fourth Man is John McDermott, providing a proper link to the Academy. But I have to wonder what happened with the signing of Sissoko & Aurier when we had the likes of Josh Onomah and KWP winning the U20 World Cup.....

McDermott is all the all-seeing eye when it comes to the club's development squad and academy.
He will tell Pochettino whether there is a better player ready to come through into the first team, rather than bringing someone in from outside and will also give his thoughts on young players targeted to come into the club.
