What's new

How much of it can we keep together?

We’ve been doing outstandingly well over the last 2 seasons or so, and obviously in terms of wages and stature we’ve been punching above our weight. This season was always going to be a struggle at Wembley, plus the other top clubs have spent hundreds of millions on reinforcements, so my hope is (and always has been this season) that we get in the top 4 so we can have CL football at the ‘Lane’ next season. For the record, I genuinely believe we’d have won the league if we’d been at the Lane this season.

Money talks and I expect bids in for a handful of our players at the end of the season whether we finish top 4 or not. All our top players could genuinely double or maybe even triple their wages with a move and I reckon at least a couple of our top players will move on. More may want to but we can’t sell all of them. I have no doubt that almost all of our top players love the club and feel an affinity with it but the chance to double their wages will win over most times. We may get lucky again with another Dele but while our spending & wage structure remains as it is, we’ll always struggle to maintain our brilliant form of the last few seasons because the big spenders will just do what do and buy up all the great players.

Maybe the lure of playing in a brand new 61k stadium will help keep some of our stars happy for next season. But when they see what’s happened with Walker, it makes it a bit more difficult for us to keep them. At the time lots of us thought £50m was a great bit of business, and it might’ve been if he’d gone abroad, but he’s probably going to win the league (at least) on double the wages he was on here and that will only make some of our players envious. In an ideal world they’d want to fight for Spurs even more so we win something to show him he made a mistake moving, but it’s not an ideal world....

I think we have to expect a few changes in the summer but hopefully Poch will work his magic and we can maintain our status as contenders. I can’t lie though, I’m not overly optimistic. Always hopeful though....

If Alli/Eriksen want to leave let them. Bite anyone's hand off for anything north of £150m, and build the team around Lamela and Kane.

Buy Richarlison and Pulisic and let's have proper pace on the wings again to break down teams who sit 11 behind the ball.

Kane

Richarlison------Lamela--------Pulisic
build the team around a player who has played 10 mins in 12 months
sell 2 of our best players
sign a player who has had a couple of decent performances for watford
chuck in a completely unrealistic signing

''but it worked on football manager!''

Realistically I can see Rose and Toby leaving this summer. Rose to Man.U and Toby not sure but given that he’s not signing a new contract we may need to sell him before the situation gets sticky.

I think our other ‘big’ names should stay but we will seriously need to have a good summer to replace two top top class players sufficiently AND improve the squad in the areas were weak in, mainly attacking options and a CM.

Oh and the stadium better bloody be ready or we are just fucked.

It's because attackers are more expensive than defenders on the whole. That's why we don't buy them. All the good ones now are £40/£50 million and want over £100k a week in wages. We are still trying to do it on the cheap (njie, nkoudou,Llorente) or making bad expensive decisions (Janssen, Sissoko).

I'm hoping that changes with us going into the new stadium next season but I will be surprised if we do.

How much does salah cost compared to sanchez ?

Sorry OP but do you seriously consider United as having won 3 trophies last year?!

The community shield is not a trophy I'm sorry, it features 2 teams in total and is essentially just an extension of pre season.

I'd love a Charity Shield appearence, love it for our team, win or lose because to get their means we would have won one of the big ones.

Aren't we something like the 12th highest payers in the world?

I certainly don't think we are as tight as a lot of papers make out. The only issue we have is that we also play in a league where there is astronomical wealth, and also desperate owners of mid/lower table teams that pay way over the odds and skew any wage statistics.

For every Alli on £40k a week (pre new contract) there's a Hernandez on £140k, Zaha on £100k etc.

Its all relative isn't it? These players are paid handsomely but it's human nature to be greedy.

With regards to transfer fees, we are hardly paupers, but with such a big project, have had to be careful. We spent £40m on one player in the summer, but to have a chance of winning the league you're gonna need 3 or 4 £40m players or 1 £100m player now.

We missed our chance to win the league two years in a row, for different reasons (the Leicester love in and down tools of other teams will always irk me).

We unfortunately now live in a world where only the super, super rich are going to prosper

Our accounts are historic statements ffs. How many times.

Our income this year will be in the ball park of Liverpool and Arsenal.

We can seriously upgrade our wages _ to the level of state sponsored City and Chelsea no but we can be very competitive.

Will it? Liverpool alone make twice our commercial income.

Shirts

Spurs - AIA - £35m pa, pool £30m

Kit

£30m pa spurs, pool - £25m

We also have a plus 70k average attendances with higher ticket prices.

You are correct on a historic basis not as at today.

They are correct but historic.

I’m going off today and latest and I expect our turnover will be in line with Arse and Pool.

It will give us scope to Increase and be competive on wages although off MU, Chelsea and City.

Chelsea and Man C abnormalities as artificially funded.
