How would you rate your football knowledge?

It's tough for me because most of my weekends in the fall and spring are spent refereeing so I struggle to spend the entire day watching the premier League or the bundesliga or La Liga.

Every season I usually tell myself that I'm going to watch the US version of match of the day every week but that usually ends as soon as Spurs drop some stupid points and then I don't feel like watching the highlights that day.

I rate myself very highly as I watch a ton of football from the Libertadores to most European leagues. I watch nearly all of the premier league games and the CL, and watch quite a bit of Serie A. A bit of the bundlesliga, La Liga, and Ligue 1. The big games in Portugal, Netherlands, and try to make sure I’m aware of young talents across the globe. But I also have no life, so I’m cheating a bit aren’t I.

I don't know much, but I pretend to know loads because most people know as little as I do.

One thing I love about football is that everyone has an opinion; it might not be correct (usually isn't), but as long as you can passionately argue your point, you're doing football 'right'

Seriously though, football really is a sort of a second language; a cultural touchstone that helps you bond with complete strangers. I've been to different parts of the world and have regularly got into random conversations about players, managers and the state of our club with the most unlikely of people.

I remember being evacuated from a tiny village in the Northern Philippines because there was a tsunami alert and spent much of the experience talking to a local about Tottenham's chances of making it into the Top 4. And my first experience of Singapore was getting a cab from the airport and finding out that the driver was a big Archibald and Crooks fan (the players, not the grumpy git on this forum). We then ended up singing "Altogether Now" by the Farm until we got to my hotel.

Anyway, as long as you can say something - anything - about football, you can make connections, build relationships and fill the awkward silences that most English people fear.

And my knowledge of football is totally useless :cautious:

I´m fairly certain that at least half of the players that we are linked to don´t even actually exist, that´s how switched on I am these days

I used to be pretty good but now I'm a functional adult and don't play football manager or watch as much football as I used to I feel pretty useless.

It’s quality not quantity for me, mainly a time thing and tbh I just get bored with watching loads of games. Lockdown certainly made me realise there’s a lot more interests you can have in life. I went to a lot of academy games pre Covid and hoped get back into that when Covid finally fcks off. I’m pretty most just know players names from football manager and fifa. There are some very good accounts though on Twitter and Instagram amongst the rubbish.

After I had my playing days ended by injury I spent 3-4 years completely addicted to football. I watched every top division game I could find, read up on coaches and became a complete nerd. Now I just watch Spurs games and the odd game from other leagues. During the manager hunt I think I watched a fair amount of Leipzig, Sevilla and Inter games to have an idea as to what some fans were talking about regarding their favoured coaches.

I watch a fair amount of Bundesliga in addition to PL as my wife is half German and it is fun discussing it with here cousins. Keep up with a few teams in La Liga and Serie A but never, ever watch a Ligue 1 match. Decent knowledge of the game and kind of watch everything with a coach's eye as I was a coach for 20+ years. Definitely not an expert but more than that of just Spurs / PL.

Premier League - 7/10
Foreign Leagues - Danny Rose level
Pretty similar to me. I chuckle to myself when all these names are discussed in player & itk threads, and I’m not cognisant with any of them. ‘Round the ages of 10-15 I knew everything - then I started to grow more as a person with other interests… now football is just one part of the pie of life. Played football since I could walk… have a decent understanding of the game… still have the odd kick about with one of my teenage daughters … she’s picking up the mantle… I’m far from a ‘fanatic’ nowadays
