Dier is the midfield issue. Too lazy and apathetic, no urgency to make sure of passes and poor on the ball under pressure. Oh for the fit and healthy, on form Wanyama.

Exactly this. For next season we need to consider a CM for an aging Dembele, but also an upgrade on Dier

No one has really had a good game. I’d take off Dier for Winks and then take off a CB for Lamela.

Trippier or Rose not exactly been on fire either. Rose dived. Moura fouled in box early in but should've got a pen b4 Kane scored.

Need to get the 3rd early in the 2nd half and put this match to bed. We can then rest up players like Jan, Dembele and Kane for Wednesday.

A goal for them and I can see us creaking a bit.

That last 5 minutes was abysmal. So much disconnect.

Huddersfield started off at 161 kph but the stuffing was knocked out of them with the goals and we almost let them back in.

That's been a pretty messy half of football, no real control apart from a little spell immediately after going 2-0 up, however luckily for us Huddersfield's defensive cohesion (for the second season in a row) is shocking and they are all at sea and wide open to pretty much any pass that goes in behind them and you'd fancy your chances any time you advance over the halfway line against them.

Unpopular opinion but I'm far from convinced about moura.

Against this Huddersfield team Son and Moura should be causing havoc as they leave so much space at the back.
Our problem is the speed and quality of supply on the break, especially from the Dier/Dembele awful midfield combo

Dont think we've played badly. Huddersfield started with a 150% unsustainable intensity, trying to press us. We rode that pressure and have been in control since. Penalty decision was soft although I thought it was a stone waller in real time. Huddersfield players are getting frustrated and giving away a lot of niggly fouls

Edit. Also, dier works so much better in a back 4 where he can slot back in. Wanyama to me is the superior player, particularly in this formation

We all love the guy, but you've got shite in your eyes - nothing personal - if you can't see he's not the same player.

Face reality, people.

It doesn't mean you don't like him to state facts.

If he could regain that edge to his game I'd love it, of course, but I can't see it and think the two ankle injuries he had have had a big effect.
I disagree. I do think it's true that he had been looking like a shadow of himself, but the last two weeks have given me cause to be optimistic that he's on his way back to his best. He's doing things that had been missing from his game -- turning defenders and breaking forward at pace for one-on-ones with the keepers, getting snapshots away, etc. He was hobbled by rushing himself back from the ankle injury, but he's looking fitter and sharper than he has since March. It's a bit premature to say he'll never be the same again.

Much better shape. Doing so many basic things wrong though. Don't think Huddersfield can keep up the running as much in the second half so hopefully more space will open for Lucas and Son.

i always wonder what the manager sees that we don’t, think just about every spurs fan would agree Dier was complete shit that 1st half and we’re winning in spite of him but you just know there’s no way he’s being subbed

I know we shouldn't complain too much when we are in a good position but the amount of unforced errors we are making is a real concern. Make the same errors against Barca and we'll be out of the game early doors. We are getting away with this.

We were unable to get a foot on the ball for the majority of that half. Trippier is making the wrong choices, Dier has been incredibly sloppy, I don't even know what happened to Rose at the end there. Lucas needs to be more composed with his first touch, whilst Sonny is a bit invisible at the moment. Huddersfield have pressed us and have been full of energy but we are certainly not helping ourselves.

The fact we can rely on Kane's ability is the difference here because a better team would have made their start count.

Predictably we look absolutely dreadful, as we always have when playing a 343 in the past 18 months, not least because theee centre backs and Dier in front is the footballing equivalent of spreading your legs and cuffing yourself to the bed posts.

The lack of Lamela completes the lunacy.

Manager being too clever by half.
Before today we've played 343 once in the last 18 months.

We need an entirely new midfield. Dembele should not be starting many games any more and Dier should be playing for West Brom or someone. They are struggling against Huddersfield, god knows what's going to happen against Barca.

We've been very poor but do at least look dangerous going forward. Great header from Kane.

Who'd have thought playing Dier and Dembele in the centre of the park in a shape that demands incisive balls and vision from the middle (especially when your "lightening" fullbacks aren't producing magic on the flanks) would produce a turgid side-to-side borefest from us?

Thank god Huddersfield chose to come at us like idiots today and let us in.
