I dont buy into this ''he's only 21'' rubbish. There are so many central midfielders out there now that have been around for a while that are still young.

I just dont think he's good enough for the top level. If he was 17/18 then fair enough, but look at Fabregas, Denilson, Ireland, Michael Johnson, Sissoko - thats honestly off the top of my head.

The boy needs to get hungry, and grow up fast.

he's much more of a carrick/deco/pirlo type player than any of the examples above though. That kind of passing playmaker always takes longer to develop and it's usually not til they are 24-25 that they get really good. A lot of the players you list I admire very much, but they have games built around charging all over the pitch. If Hudd learns better positioning to adapt to his lack of pace, he could be spectacular. He could turn out to be a bust, too, I'd just prefer to find out how good he is at 24 before selling him. The risk of him turning out awesome is quite high imo.

just think he hasn't got the right build to be a 'top notch' midfielder,
being honest if I was a scout it would have put me off getting him, just a pity that is what is going to hold him back and not his ability, prob would effect his confidence to knowing he aint the most agile of players :cry:

As I keep saying in EVERY Huddlestone thread we have -

The Hudd is better than Carrick was at the same age.

If such a clause existed I'm sure JR has already told Levy to write the cheque, but we only have the authority of a couple of English newspaper reports that it does. There's certainly been nothing about Poulsen in Marca. And hasn't Ramos already said he has no intention of raiding Sevilla? (Not that del Nido is going to be falling over himself to do any business with us.)

Zokora is also likely to be away for the best part of a month, and Ramos will surely be aware of Tainio's injury-proneness.

It's fairly widely reported that Poulsen has a get out clause in his contract, if this is the case it's irrelevant whether or not Sevilla want to do business with us. If we meet the contracted clause they can't prevent us signing the player if he wants to come.

If Poulsen were to sign in jan I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hudd go in the same window, he could well find the following list in front of him...

Poulsen
JJ
Boateng
TT
Zokora

Not to mention Steed and Kaboul who can both operate in central midfield.

I think Poulsen is the key and I have no doubt that JR would like him, but can he persuade him? If so the Hudd could well be a goner.

Well of course it is! What else does my opening sentence imply?

All I was saying is that these reports appear only in English papers, not in Marca, and whilst Marca isn't that reliable a source, you'd rather expect it to come up with the story before our press. As of the moment, the only speculation their Sevilla section is carrying is the Kanoute stuff, plus Dragutinovic explaining why he turned down a move to the Barcodes.

Huddlestone doesn't need to lose weight. He's not fat and is in shape - he's a professional footballer FFS.

He's just a built lad whose tall and broad - it's a shame a lot of our members seem to think anyone that isn't a rake is 'fat'. I'd like to see if those members also have to neck protein shakes and try in vain to put on any sort of muscle capability. Just out of interest you understand, not a sweeping generalisation. At all.

I spoke to a former coach of his last Thursday and he said;

"Tom won't play for Ramos. I told him when we met up that he needed to lose 10kg. He's the best passer in England, but he can't get close enough to people."

I said;

"He walked through the entire game against Blackburn."

He said;

"Of course he did. Put me in Blackburn's midfield and I could still last 30-40 minutes against Tom."

Tom is fat. He is unfit.

I'd just add one thing to this .

When Hudd came on for an early match , John Barnes was part of the commentary team and he said straightaway that he wasn't sure the Hudd had a midfielder's build and that he expected him to return eventually to playing as a CB .

Truespur, in short I haven't and wouldn't claim to have. However it was said at the time when we signed him that he could play in Central Midfield.

This wasn't really the point that I was trying to make, all I was saying was that if we sign a central mid in January there ia a possibility that Tom might move on as he appears from all reports not to be a Ramos type player.

Right OK. Because you say that Russ, he must be.

Don't consider using your eyes or anything. If some coach tells you he is fat, he must be. :wink:

It is early days with Ramos. He has made it clear that he wants to look at everyone and even Ghaly will get a go (he is still with us somewhere isn't he?)
Huddlestone is our best passer by far. He is probably our player who is best regarded for the future in the England set up. I reckon Ramos would consider him at the back because the alternatives have looked so poor......Dawson and Kaboul have hardly set the world on fire so far. Huddlestone might even be used in a 3 centre back set up because he can undoubtedly distribute the ball very well....unlike the two just mentioned. Don't write him off yet!

Stoof, have you lifted his shirt and checked?

I'm not calling you a shirt-lifter of course! :)

But seriously, this came from a fella who's played at the very top level, who has seen and worked with him close up...

Don't get me wrong, he's not Earthquake, but he's not Brock Lesner either.

He's... Bubba Ray Dudley? :wink:

For those who don't watch wrestling, sorry!

Fat or not, the Hudd was slow and losing focus. Maybe this will help him regain his powers, because his last first team game - he did not play at all well.

Spurs midfielder warned: You're not fit to wear the shirt

Spurs boss Juande Ramos has also warned Tom Huddlestone to lose weight if he wants to play.

The midfielder is in the squad for the UEFA Cup tie again Hapoel Tel Aviv, but was left out against Blackpool in the Carling Cup and against Middlesbrough last weekend.

Ramos, acting on the advice of the club's new fitness coach Marcos Alvarez, sent Huddlestone to Walsall on Monday to play in the reserves' 3-1 defeat by Aston Villa.

I think he could comfortably lose a stone or so, because he's got definite chunkster tendencies, but whether that would make him any pacier is a moot point. He is never, ever, going to be as quick as Big Tone and Ledley. Kaboul is described as quick, but compared to those two he isn't, as has been demonstrated on numerous occasions this season. If the Hudd could get somewhere near his pace, though, I'd be happy enough.

Time for some out of left field thinking. Get a sprint trainer in, and (seriously!) a dance trainer.
