Tom Huddlestone has admitted that he does not know where he stands at Tottenham having not started a Premier League game since Boxing Day.

In fact since then the midfielder has made just four starts in all competitions despite starting eight out of manager Harry Redknapp's first ten games in charge.

The regular England Under 21 international was tipped for big things as a youngster at Derby but over the past few seasons his career seems to have hit a stumbling block.

After being forced to go on a strict diet when ex-boss Juande Ramos took over in October 2007, the 22-year-old had appeared to have established himself at White Hart Lane.

However, after the expensive arrival of Wilson Palacios from Wigan in January, and the club subsequently hitting top form, Huddlestone may have to move in order to find first-team football.

    Uncertain future

"It is difficult to say what the future might hold," he revealed.

"Maybe the manager will bring a few new players in and get rid of a few and it might coincide with me not playing at the minute.

"I want to fight for my place, but the last game I played for Tottenham was in the reserves and I did not go there to play in the reserves so it is just a case of seeing what happens between now and the end of the season.

"Nothing has been said to me and I am not playing, so I am in a difficult situation. I have just got to focus on staying fit and taking my chance if it comes.

"The lads are on fire at the minute so it's not likely the chance will be in the near future."

    Bye bye Tom

great passing and shooting, shame about the running, tackling, commanding the game

He's had enough chances already & sadly just isn't going to make it at Spurs - no doubting his talent & the best passer at the club, but he is just too slow & imobile to make cut in the a premier league midfield - the top sides walk all over us with Huddlestone in the side - I'm still having nightmares about his performance at home to Villa earlier in the season - was so angry with him that night

Also Shaktar at home in the UEFA cup when Harry said he was majastic - not sure what game Harry was watching as i though he was dreadful

All that said, I like him & wish him all the best - he needs to get out of Spurs in the interests of all concerned

Is this the same interview as acouple of months ago? if so, delete topic, if not, seriously Thudd, enough of the whinging, train hard get into the first team and play good enough to keep your spot.
I know a lot of ppl here have a soft spot for Thudd, but when it comes down to it, Harry doesn't have a vendetta against him, he hasn't done enough to justify a spot and when he was he didn't do enough to keep a spot.
One of my pet hates is players complaining about not getting enough first team football, when they haven't played well enough to earn a first team spot.

He's not as good as Palacios and Jenas so he won't start. He wouldn't start for any of the top 4 sides either. So he would be moving to our rivals? But then again I don't see where he could go that wouldn't be a step down..

Fuck sake tom...most footballers would give there right arm 2 have your build & talent.Your the player i had hope would develop into our Redondo. No one expects u to be Lothar Mattiaus, but u can be a player,if u stop fuckin whingeing.

Your not a kid anymore, stop talking & dont waste the chance u have been given to be somebody special.Wilson P came in an he wants more, it thats why hes playing.

I remember when Rio used to swan around & get caught on the ball, but the penny dropped...get in the gym loose some weight & keep it off..Your starting to sound like u wanna play for Bolton..

I say we go back in for Veloso or Ever Benega or Yaya toure.

In some ways, he is better than both of them.

He is just not the type of player that the manager wants in the team. It seems that our preferred centre-midfield consists of two players who can constantly apply pressure to the opposition, win the ball and give it to our more creative players.

Sadly for him, that description does not, and perhaps never will, fit Tom Huddlestone.

That game against Shaktar, he produced one of the best passes I have ever seen on a football field, shame Bale didn't bury the chance. And one pass does not make a performance, but his all round display at centre back that night was pure class.

I don't think for a moment he should be starting in the Prem due to his immobility but credit where its due - he was MOM that night.

Yeah that's the way I see it too. Vision, creativity, passing and technical ability way above Palacios n Jenas. If only he stays and work on other areas of his game...

    Far too impatient I feel...

That's spot on. Love the kid, part of me wants him to stay and be a part of it all, but I can see Harry letting him go.

It just gets me that hes whinging, what is that going get him? besides maybe a few offers come summer? nothing positive (in regards to Spurs) is going to come of his comments.

train him to be a centre back
  12. laneoflegends
Perhaps the next Ledley King with his passing ability. I fear that he would never make a decent CB though as he's tackling leaves a lot to be desired.
  13. rupsmith
Exactly - he can be as good as Rio Ferdinand - even better if he is developed properly. Vision passing, good shot and everything. Not enough energy to play central midfiled in the Premier League - probably Spain or Italy eventually

Hudd has so much talent, but his mobility is almost a joke. its no good being good with only the ball unless we somehow manage 75 possession during games.

its almost as if he should have more determination to get to the ball to make up for his lack of pace, but his determination is terrible too.

I think a team like Bolton or Blackburn can build a team around him and keep focussing on staying mid-table, but to move upwards you need mobility no matter how good your ability is.

Redknapp has shown a clear preference for Jenas and hasn't even used Huddlestone to come on and try and chance games (I'm an admirer of arry, but putting on Bale, Bentley, and O'hara and leaving Huddlesone and Taarabt on the bench in the carling cup final was a criminaly bad choice)...so careerwise, I think tom is right to think about a move - especially as he's likely to have several attractive suiters. Either aston villa or Hamburg would be a great move for the lad.

I used to be a bigger fan of his than I am now to be honest; I think it would be a massive shame to see him go - especially without even seeing what he would look like alongside palacios. Yet in a way, I'd admire Redknapp for making a decisive decision on this one, instead of just leaving him in limbo (as one for the future - maybe) for yet another year. Redknapp is, at last, a manager trying to build a team. That may mean letting go of potentially top players who won't fit into that team.

Ever since the arrival of arneson, we've bought too many players without considering where they're going to play. With arry I think we'll see players we need, with a certain idea of how they're going to play with the players we already have. (although signing Defoe and Keane is not evidence of this, I'll admit)

huddlestone is a good midfielder, and i would have him in our squad. however i feel that he is coming to the stage in his career where he needs to be playing regularly. with palacios, jenas, zokora, and o'hara ahead of him in the pecking order

if we get into europe i can see him staying/ been kept as we will need players of his quality in his squad to rotate. if we don't and an offer upwards of £6.5m comes in i can see harry cashing in.

    just my opinion
  17. OrangeTHFC
With the type of football we play it is they don't feel the need to built-in a player like Huddlestone. (Btw I don't condemn the football we are playing since Redknapp arrived because we were in a relegationfight and need all the points we can get, so well done Redknapp).

But IF.... we can reach another level sooner or later you have to make room for his type of play, no doubt. Really sad day if we decide to sell him.

The modern game, especially in England, is about 10 top atheletes in the outfield. All players need to run at pace for 90 minutes and muscle the opposition off the ball. He has the build but just hasn't shown the engine and will always be a player for Europe and lower leage cup matches where the pace is slower. Look at out team at the moment BAE, Corluka, Lennon, Modric, Jenas, Palacios, Keane, Bent, Zokora - all got speed and big engines to hussle and harry the oppostion all game long. Hudd doesn't have that and the only possitions that can afford a different attitude are GK (don't think he can swap to that at this stage of his career), CF or CB (both of which if not physical then need great timing and ability to put the body on the line).

I saw Hudd against Shaktar at home and he played CB alongside Chimbo, he was grerat and sent one of the best passes i've ever seen the length of the field, however he couldn't/wouldn't be able to do that in the Prem. I think he will be off to Everton or Villa or Newcastle (if they stay up) and it will be a shame but he's just not that physical

I think its a sad day if we cannot coach or train a talent like Huddleston into a more effective player, especially at a club that built its reputation on classy footballers.
We dont have to have a team of muscleman who can run all day, through brick walls if necessary, yes I know, he plays a bit like a brick wall. I dont remember Hoddle as a non stop all action player but one pass can change a game and Huddleston has the control and vision to play that ball several times in a game.
Palacios and Jenas can make the space neccesary for him to prosper and do some of the graft for him. Too good to be allowed to go without a real effort on his and the coaching staffs parts.
