I rarely think this about a player but Huddlestone has the potential to be a footballing great.

If you asked any football manager what type of player would make the perfect 'holding' midfielder they would tell you a giant of a man who could dictate the play.
This is exactly what Huddlestone is.

He has the passing ability to become the Carrickesque playmaker as well as the size and strength to plonk himself in front of the back four and stop the opposition.

Forget about mobility, it is unnecessary in that role, the only thing that Huddlestone lacks is experience and the self-belief to control the game at the highest level.
But one look at the U21's will show you that once he has that confidence and learns more about the positional side of the game we will have a top player on our hands who can really boss the middle.

I take it no-one watched the U21 games in the past week or so.
Hudd was running the show.

I always watch U21. Missed the bit where he ran the show though. Having said that I only watched the match, was it before or after that he ran it?

BTW I do rate THUDD, just think you are OTT with your spurs tinted glasses.

sorry but as far as I'm concerned JENAS is the number 1 overrated player at the club.
I know that this wont be popular with some people.

Well as most fans think he is shit, i cant see how he is over rated.

In fact hes under rated as he is a good player, not great, good, and everyone thinks hes a steaming pile of poo

Huddlestone is a player that has been hyped for the future. Whether he fulfills his potential is yet to be seen, and is down to him and the club. If he doesnt progress then he will have been overrated, but every time I see him I think his mobility improves, and he is not afraid to get forward (my main gripe about Carrick was he was always so far back. Huddlestone doesnt look to support the attackers when we counter attack)

I think the problem with Huddlestone is a little bit the same as the problem with all our midfielders. We can see the good in them, but they need a leader to play alongside. They need someone to give them a rollocking when they go hiding, they need someone to organise them when we are defending. There isnt a lot of talking or cohesion between our central midfielders and I think any of them would benefit from a strong character next to them.

Someone at the club, one of the coaches, needs to have a word with Tom and tell him that he needs to become a leader because he will be miss his potential as a holding midfielder if he doesnt. He needs to be the orchestrator of our moves, he should, in time, be barking out the orders, telling people where he wants them and the like. If he can introduce that in to his game he will be a very good player, world class perhaps if his tackling grows as well.

If he doesnt mature this mentality then I am afrad he will just become a stockier Carrick, very good in possession but not a leader, not a tackler, not the midfield general or engine, and in the end not quite good enough to be a top, top midfielder.

:clap::clap::bowdown:

THudd frustrates me, but like the majority of our squad it seems, the inexperience is showing at the moment.

How long before the 'Bale is over rated' threads start? He will have bad games sooner or later.....

its not a question of him being over-rated, its a question of us over relying on him. People who honestly think he is over rated, should look at why they think that. Then remember that he is only 20 and been asked to step up, when really, he should only be a bit-part player for us at the mo. Hes been slung in at the deep end completly and not done bad at all, all things considered.
Unfortunatly, the team needs more than that and it reflects badly on him.

But its far easier to slag him off than to look at the whole picture. oh, and i agree with defoesapprentice. This is a bullshit thread.

We want him to be Carrick far too soon, basically, we're looking at Fabregas and expecting Hudd to follow suit, it's both stupid and unfair. Though we're all guilty of venting our frustration when another pass goes astray...

What I want to know is why Lennon is still not a Christiano Ronaldo

That's an excellent point.

On a similar note, I'd like to know why Michael Brown isn't Stuart Pearce and Moira Stewart isn't Zena Bedowi.

Can't run.

Can't Tackle(and bottles out of them).

Poor Workrate.

Can't even turn.

Strolls around the pitch like he's a footballing God.

Passing ability is overrated. I've noticed that his passing range range is very limited. All he can do are long distance passes to the wing or chipped balls over the defence. You very rarely see him play eye of a needle passes...or passes forward ALONG THE GROUND......players like carrick and Fabregas do it for fun. Huddlestone doesn't seem to be able to do it.

Im not basing this on tonights match. He was like this against Villa and boro aswell.
Pathetic. Thudd's not the finished article, but as a premiership player now he's already very good, if people are getting carried away however it's in the name of his potential. He may turn out to be more than very good, he may not, but to make judgement now is idiotic. You're not very bright and you need to be told it, don't come back until you've grown up.

Yup, Hudd is no Fabregas , Lennon is no Ronaldo, Dawson is no Terry, Jenas is no Messi, Bent is no Torres , Keane is no Ronaldinho. No wonder we're not 10 points ahead of the rest.

Not only is Jenas underrated he's also the most frustrating player we have.

He is a good player but he has the ability to be a great player and even better than Lampard. His work rate is so much higher than everyone else's, he is a box to box player, he can tackle fairly well, pass well, shoot well and take good set pieces - unfortunately with JJ you only see this in brief glimpses. It is so frustrating to see the boy with so much potential and watch it start to go to waste.
