Clearly didn't read the article.

You're right, I didn't read it, not sure why I needed to based on the title.

I've read it now and stand by my comment.

The jist is that he is calling on his teammates to be consistent in their performances and that is a good thing. I'm saying he, more than anyone in his position both as captain and as our goalkeeper, needs to be the most consistent which in my opinion he has not been. Not this season and maybe not last season either. He has been good in the past few weeks and I'm saying that he needs to maintain that, not sure what you have an issue with.

Because the title is written for bait and is designed for people who are too lazy to click on the article so they draw their own conclusions from a cheap headline = click bait.

And no that's not the jist of it at all, he's speaking for the whole team to be consistent which includes himself, look:

"I think the key is to stay as consistent as possible all through the season, At the moment in the league we are in a good position. It is maybe one of our best starts of the last few years.

We are in a good position and we need to carry on in the same way and try to improve the way we play. We are still competitive and we will be ready for top four challenge."

So how does that equate to him calling on his team mates to be consistent without putting any blame on himself?

When you actually think take time to think that a) He was talking in a press conference and b) He was most probably asked a question about Tottenham based around their chances this season it starts to make sense in your head that he's not actually pointing the finger at anyone.

And yeah it does annoy me seeing our own fans ridicule and mock our captain who's given us so many years of service in modern day terms without the decency to give him the benefit of the doubt to at least read and comprehend his quotes properly.

In fairness I didn't intend to suggest that he wasn't including himself. Whilst I said he's calling on his teammates, I wouldn't ever imagine that wouldn't include himself and didn't mean to suggest as such. Even so, it doesn't change my point. I was simply stating that he, more than anyone, needs to be consistent because of the impact it has when he isn't and because let's face it, he's been up and down for a while.

I also don't buy into this whole "years of service" thing. There's no room for sentiment at this stage with Lloris, not when he has such responsibility. Nobody put a gun to his head and forced him to stay, he chose to stay because he wanted to and he is not beyond criticism just because he stuck around through the Sherwood and AVB years.

You're welcome to make excuses for him if you like, I don't have to and I won't. He's an experienced, senior player and our captain and frankly he's been short of my expectations for some time now. He was 2nd overall in errors leading to goals last season and whilst he's avoided errors in the league this season he's made a number of them in the CL which have directly impacted our results in that comp. I recognise his form has improved recently but there have been too many big games where he's dropped the ball, literally in some cases and my trust in him is on thin ice as a result.

So you want to focus on the fact that I didn't read the article in the first place, that's what you're clinging to? As I said, the content of the article still hasn't changed my point so it doesn't really matter, does it?

Jesus, I'm not clinging onto anything hence the nevermind.

Your rebuttal had little to do with what I posted so if you don't understand what I'm on about don't worry about it (y)

Fair enough, if you think my reponse had little to do with what you posted then we are most certainly on different pages.

We've never banged heads before and respect a lot of what you post so we'll just have to agree to disagree.
