If Pritchard is worth £8M, then Mason is worth at least around £12M, having not only solid EPL experience, but also involved in the England squad.

Of the three rumours I've heard, this was the most reliable:
Mason to Hull
Son to Wolfsburg
Yedlin to Newcastle
I joked back "Son to Wolfsburg = Draxler to Spurs...?" To which I was laughed at. Just saying.

Either there are plans to bring someone in or we are shooting ourselves in the foot with the way we are handling squad players

Id rather we sold Carroll.

I suppose if we sold Carroll (derby), mason (hull), and bentaleb (shalke) that could bring in approx £30 million to spend on a beast of a midfielder to compete with dembele. Those two plus victor and Eric with winksey as further cover would be mazeballs.

I just wish we would do this sort of business at the beginning of the bloody window, not at last orders

I like Mason a lot and think he would love to stay and fight for a place. Unfortunately his form last season was very patchy and we simply lacked quality when he played. A move would probably be good for everyone but I wouldn't be at all disappointed if he stayed.

I am not too worried about dealing with squad players at the end of the window.

If we can get a good price for one or two of them because clubs get desperate, and then reinvest that in a first teamer either in this window or next - that's good business.

If they don't go, then we have some more depth. I doubt very much they will all go though and on the basis that we need (only) two players for every position I don't see why we need all 3 of Bentaleb, Carroll, Mason to effectively cover Dembele. Any two could go, for the right price. And then use that money to upgrade on the third later.

What is critical is that you get the first team and key signings sorted as early as possible, and for the first time I can remember - that is what we have done.

I'm not entirely sure I'd do this unless Hull are paying crazy money. Agreed Mason is no Zidane but he's a decent player who gives his all. He's not a regular starter and although he's got a few England caps, we never hear complaints about not starting. Decent player, good work rate, right attitude - not attributes we'll easily find in a replacement.

I agree but who have you got in mind? We are rapidly improving and the sort of players we need to attract come at a premium I these days.

Unless Hull are offering 17m or more I wouldn't even waste my time. We were critical of Mason last season however he suffered quite a serious knee injury then returned to a highflying Tottenham outfit - where he struggled to meet previously high standards, and that of a rejuvenated Dembele.

What realistic improvements can we sign should Mason leave to provide cover in CM for similar money? I think with Wanyama and Dier offering protection - Mason will have an opportunity to play in a 'Dembele' style role more often in cup games etc, and I personally would keep him.

Carroll on the other hand might be worth moving on. Talented yes, likely to improve Spurs when he plays - no, move the lad on and offer Winks additional chances this season.
